If Hill goes, Hilliard stays. If Hill stays...I still don't see Hilliard going. He doesn't want to end up like the many LSU RBs that got lost come draft day 'a la' Michael Ford, Keiland Williams, Charles Scott, etc....

With the new rookie cap, there is less incentive than ever to stay 4 years if you will get drafted after 3. Before, you wanted that first round check. Now, you are always shooting for the post-rookie contract. That means the younger you start play in the NFL, the more years you get paid.

As far as RB's go, if your ready to start a NFL career you might as well go irregardless of draft stock. RB's are going later and even free agents are making rosters.

Hilliard has really picked it up the past few games. If he continues to run the ball hard he better go a head and go. Twins...................... damn

No one on the defense should declare, but, after the mass exodus last year, I would not be surprised if Freak, Ego and Rasco all left. If any of our players get an NFL grade regardless of projected round, they are more than likely gone.

The only early entrants should be Hill, Beckham and Landry. They have proven themselves as elite talent and they cannot help their draft status by coming back.

Every single other player mentioned in this thread is more likely to end up as a late round or UDFA than they are to being a day two pick. The hardest one is La'El Collins. He has the size, strength and athleticism to be a top pick, but (1) he hasn't been playing the position for long at the college level and (2) he has been good, not great. The problem is, he has been told since he was 16 that he was a surefire first rounder, some scout or agent will overrate him and convince him to come out and then he'll be a fourth round pick.

Same thing with Freak and Ego. These guys are third rounders (Freak) and fourth rounders (Ego) who will be told they could go in the late first, early second. Remember Sam Montgomery? Middle to late first round grade at this time last year. Instead, he goes in round 3 and a lot of people say the Texans reached. Sam will be out of the league in two years.

Turner will be drafted in round 6 or 7 (and could be an UDFA). Allen, Rasco and Collins - same thing. Hilliard will not be drafted. If you end up as a late rounder or an UDFA, you have so much to prove, it rarely works. That's why guys like Brady and Colston are such fascinating stories, because usually those guys are hoping to make the practice squad and spend a year or two before realizing the dream is over. Why in the world do some people VOLUNTEER for this (e.g., Trev Faulk, Chris Faulk, Tharold Simon)?

I get that the money even for a late round pick is really good. But someone who cares about these guys needs to tell them that NFL teams want return on investment. They don't sign free agents and high round draft picks and then cut them loose. Sure, they'll take a cheap diamond in the rough who pans out. But they give those flyers far less opportunity because they aren't invested in them.

Finally, being a college kid (and a star football player at a school like LSU) is something worth enjoying. Aside from trust fund babies, no one has money at 21 or 22. But the memories of that senior year in college stay forever, long after the playing days are over. Like I said at the beginning, I totally get it for Hill, Landry and Beckham. But the rest should stay in school, get better and enjoy life.

I agree, but these days that's all it takes. Many would rather be getting paid period, and more often than not a senior year can only hurt a guy's chances with the injury risk. This is not an absolute truth, but as a rule of thumb teams seem to be placing less emphasis on a guys college tape an more on his perceived potential. IF they get a draftable grade they're more than likely gone nowadays. I agree most would probably have more to remember if they stayed for their senior year, and maybe a team gets caught in the hype of a good 4th year and takes them early. That said, with Sam as a great example, those who aren't going to make in the NFL aren't any better served by a senior season that may expose them or get them hurt.

ETA: Not to say I think Sam will be a bust, just that he wasn't gonna get a higher grade this year, so he left when he should have.
