What will it take to save his job this year? You have to think he's on the hot seat

He had the team progressing each year, got to the tourney, then had a total whiff with Ben Simmons. If Simmons really was as bad of a teammate as has come out in the months since the season ended, maybe JJ really just got a tough break.

He's really not the kind of guy that should be coaching an ego like a known first pick of the draft.

We need to at least be a bubble team until late in the season to give him one more year. I think this team will be a bubble team at worst.

Need to see this team's effort against top 25 competetion. These early games mean nothing.

Win 12/18 SEC games, I'll be ok with that.

Playing Wofford and Southern Miss is a waste of time and weakens the RPI.

I'm hoping we can see why JJ was hired and how he still has his job. I'm thinking we will see much improvement.

He can't link you to his imagination.

Do you really need a link or have you been oblivious to Simmons' comments? He has said multiple times how he thought college basketball was a joke.

I personally think that someone saying that they think their current role/job is a joke is certainly not the mentality you'd want to surround yourself with. Would you want that as a coach?

They meant nothing last year when we lost a few of them. Turns out they showed some signs of what was to come. I agree that we still need to wait and see but effort, teamwork and more importantly results in these early games can tell a lot about a team.

We will find out what this team is made of soon. Wichita State would probably be the 2nd best team in the SEC right now. If we can beat them at a neutral site then we should be able to hang with any SEC team outside of Kentucky

They mean everything if you lose them. Those games are chemistry builders for the team. I went to both games last week and watched the one last night after work and see a better squad than last year.

The real test will come next week vs Wichita and of we beat them, we get Louisville in that tournament . Then they go to Wake Forest in a few weeks. We could see what this team has then.

Yes, I would really like someone to backup their assertion.

Being against the ncaa =/ being a bad teammate. The majority, if not all, of his teammates would share his sentiments along with most of CBB.

From all accounts, Simmons bought into the team and others didn't (most likely TQ). That was echoed when CJJ brought in a sports psychologist.

I mean his best friend still plays for the Tigers.

To each his own. As a coach, I would not rather an "I'm too good for this" presence in the locker room.

“I feel like I’m wasting time,” Simmons said, via SB Nation. "It really was a joke."
Fox Sports article

Compare that to someone like Tasmin Mitchell, who has had mucho success beyond the NCAA, and had a contagious, positive attitude, along with a Final Four run.

LSU is not going to pay the bucks to get a very good MBB HC, imo. CJJ is one of the lowest paid HC's in the SEC although his SEC achievements surpass several HC's who make more $$$ than he does.

If our team in 16-17 wins 19 games, and I think they can, and goes to the NIT, CJJ will be back in 17-18. Alleva and the BOS don't want to pay for a first class MBB program.

He hasn't won a single tourney game, and squandered an absurd amount of NBA talent. What accomplishments?

I love Tasmin, but they entered school under vastly different circumstances. He needed college basketball as he was fringe nba talent.

Do you like Blakeney? Ben's best friend and the reason he's at LSU. It's crazy to me that he is now perceived as a selfish player, when his criticism while at LSU was that he tried to get his teammates involved too much.

Now post the rest of the quote instead of ending it before the article does to intentionally take it out of context:

quote:

"It really was a joke. It was a class about preparing for better study habits or skills. I’m going to the NBA next season. So why bulls--- if it’s not going to help me?”

Furthermore, Tas came into lsu with a team loaded with leadership. Simmons was asked to carry the load from day 1, and Quarterman appeared to take issue with it

I'm curious, because I really liked Tasmin as a player, as to what post-LSU success he has had. What is he doing these days?
