Among some really poorly thought-out prognostications, this one really stuck out:

[quote]• DE Lavar Edwards, LSU: With Shepard on the sidelines, Edwards rates as LSU's top NFL prospect in this game. The junior is a terrific athlete who displays skill rushing the passer or pursuing the action from the backside. Edwards has a frame that should expand over time and offers nice potential. Grade: Third-round prospect. Read more: LINK ]

Nothing against Edwards. I think he's very good. But most who truly follow LSU football would agree that Edwards is hardly LSU's top DE, much less the top overall NFL prospect on the team.

Where do they come up with this stuff?

ETA: Yes, I needed a new thread to discuss this article.

Two "da frick" things:

1) If Shepard were in, would he be the top NFL prospect?

2) Edwards?

There's tons of fail in that entire article. Hatcher is still listed as a safety, for one.

What about the Hatcher write up:

quote:

• S Karnell Hatcher, LSU: The underrated senior is a tough run defender with good range and the ability to get outside the numbers in coverage. Hatcher lacks elite athleticism yet plays smart, tough football. Grade: Sixth-round prospect.

I mean, he's not even a safety anymore, even if he projects there in the NFL. not to mention he's not good in coverage.

Being the best performer/producer on a college team nad being the best pro prospect do not necessarily go hand-in-hand.

Tim Tebow, many have argued, is the greatest college football player, ever and few would argue that he isn't among the best of all time. Yet he is third behind Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn on the Broncos depth chart.

This is what pro scounts care about, not NECESSARILY tackles, sacks or other stats:

"...rushing the passer or pursuing the action from the backside. Edwards has a frame that should expand over time and offers nice potential. ..."

Yeah, but there's this guy named Mo Claiborne on our team whom perhaps you've heard of. Hell, Rueben Randle.

I could name about six other guys besides Shep and Lavar who he could have put in his shitty arse article.

ok, but Edwards is maybe the 5th best pro prospect of guys who will be draft eligible after this yr. and that might be stretching it a bit. Mo, RR, Ken Adams, and a few of the OL would presumably rated higher.

* leaving Sam off until we see he's back at full speed.
