Does Mett's success change the way you look at Lee and Jefferson?

IMO Zach has more natural talent than both of them as a passer. Looking back, maybe the design of the passing game had more to do with our troubles than the guys executing the offense. Any of you giving Jefferson and Lee a reprieve (at least partially) because of Mett's success in Cam's offense?

Always felt both were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Removing Stud has as much to do with the progess as does adding Cam.

Stud had no business being an OC at a school like LSU.

JJ was a piece of dog shat. lee was a better passer, he didnt have the mobility. I still want to know the real reason JJ played in all of the BCSNCG...that will haunt me for a long time. He has to have pics of Les or something.

Zach is so much better.

Actually you should be saying quite the opposite. Mett is what a QB with talent looks like. You should be able to look at what he brings to the table and see how limited as QB's that both JJ and JL truly were.

This is what a REAL QB looks like folks. Yes CC has helped Mett improve and yes he would have likely improved JJ and JL some.

A good QB coach and OC isn't a magic bullet. You can't build a strong house out of toothpicks, you have to have some good materials to start with.

JJ and JL were too flawed for them to ever have been more than mediocre QB's regardless of the OC or QB coach.

Say it isn't so!

I'm pretty sure multiple Heismans and #1 pick were his with the right OC.

Definitely . . . JL would have probably been better, but JJ would still have been sitting on his arse at the 50 with look on his face that says "what the hell is wrong with EVERYBODY else?"

My argument to all of this is Mett's performance last year. He's clearly talented like I said, but last year, he played very mediocre much like the QBs in the 4 years before him.

We bring in a new OC with a different philosophy. new route combinations, and an ability to coach QBs, and suddenly we're talking about a team that can in because, instead of in spite, of the offense.

ETA: This isn't me saying that JL or JJ would have been prolific passers. I just believe we would've had more trust in them late in games if they played under this regime.

Both Jefferson and Lee were talented players who could have seriously used quality coaching at the QB position. Looking at the difference in Mettenberger last year vs the first 3 games of this year show what a difference good coaching can make. This has always been my perspective on the QB situation at LSU.

With any decent Qb development and a coordinator with as much autonomy as Cam, Lee never relinquishes the starting job to JJ at LSU

I believed that in 09, 2010 and 2011

It's hard to imagine that the coaching was sooooo bad that neither of them developed into a reliable QB.
JL always ALWAYS had the confidence issues. You could just tell everytime he'd drop back to pass it.
JJ had confidence but lacked the passing talent of JL.
If either were ever worthy of an elite team QB position then the NFL would've seen that and coached them up.
CAM wouldn't have made that much difference with them.
And I think that the year of experience under Mett's belt helped more than anything.
That being said I'm super friggin happy CAM is on-board. Seems that he's tweaking some small things that are making a big difference and the whole attitude has changed - which is important too!

I'll never be able to figure out why Jordan Jefferson was only able to manage 4 yards of total offense against McNeese St.

I said it then, and say it now. Anybody on this website could have fallen forward 4 plays in a row and gotten that much yardage.

Who do we blame for that level of terrible? Everybody?

Last year Mett showed a better arm than JJ or JL, but was plagued with the same types of problems that we saw in prior years - inconsistency, some confusion, receivers never seem to be open, no offensive identity.

The turnaround so far this year tells me that coaching was the problem before. I don't think that JJ or JL would have been as good as Mett could be, but they could have been serviceable QBs in a good offensive scheme. With the defenses that we had the last few years, that probably would have given us at least one, and maybe two, more NCs.

sure everyone should see how much better Mett is than them, but at the same time you should be able to see the diff between our offense last year and this year.

Cam would have made big difference for both of them whether you liked them or not.

The coaching staff decided that a power run game, defense, and special teams were all more important than a competent passing game, so the needs of our QBs were but on the backburner.
