I call Florida State "Florida State" in everyday talk and not FSU. I don't know why Louisiana State pisses people off so much.

Well Florida State is an official name of Florida State University or FSU.

Louisiana State is not an official name of LSU.

How complicated is this?

quote:

In written and verbal communications, LSU should always be referred to as Louisiana State University, LSU, or the University.

Official documents, such as legally binding contracts and certified documents, should refer to LSU by its legal name: Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College.

LSU should NEVER be referred to as Louisiana State, LSU–Baton Rouge, L.S.U., or other aliases different from those stated above.

When someone asks you where you went to College, do you say "Louisiana State" or "LSU"?

A university has the right to tell the media what it wants to be called.

LSU has stated repeatedly that it wants to be called LSU.

As for me personally, I don't care if someone just randomly says hey, didn't you go to Louisiana State? I will reply, yeah... I went to LSU.

No big deal.

BUT...

If someone in the media says a score "Louisiana State 10, UCLA 3"... that just pisses me off.

That's different. The media should honor LSU's very simple and reasonable request regarding its own identity.

If you go to page 44 it talks about the usage in athletics with the same wording quoted a few posts back.

Of course LSU can't control what other's write about them or how it's written but you'd like out of courtesy writers would oblige.

Main reason they did away with it was because it isn't needed since there isn't a University of Louisiana or Louisiana University.

Flagship initiative, FTW.

From ULL's website.

quote:

University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the formal and official name of the university. Please use this name in all first references.

UL Lafayette is acceptable for second reference.

The following uses are inaccurate:
ULL, U of L, U of LL, and U of L at Lafayette

The lead athletic name is Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns®. Teams may also be referred to as Ragin' Cajuns® and Cajuns. Ragin' Cajuns ® is a federally registered trademark.
