No but I know the origin of "eat um up Tigers" if you care to know.

Tigerbait was started by a fan named "Big Red". He had red hair and a huge booming voice and he chanted tigerbait in a very quick pace when the opposing team made an entrance. His voice carried all across the stadium and when he was really going to town, many times the rest of the fans would just stop and marvel.
It was meant to intimidate the PLAYERS. It was NOT directed at opposing fans in a menacing manner.

When a man loves a tiger...

Cavemen used it to lure tigers into pits.

*I well remember Big Red at athletic events in the '60's and '70's. Hid booming voice could be heard through his sheet metal megaphone in the Cow Barn during the basketball games and at Alex Box for baseball as well as football road trips. But, I suspect that "tigerbait" as a cheer preceded the "Big Red" era.

I remember hearing Big Red's voice in Tiger Stadium. It carried incredibly well. He sat in the North Endzone.
But I, like melonhead, believe that "tiger bait" has been around longer than the era of Big Red.

I know he perfected it, but I'm not sure he STARTED it.
Big Red was also great at baseball games, which only drew about 200 or so other folks back in those days.

About Big Red
Les Champagne, of Denham Springs, tells the reader who inquired about “Big Red,” the guy with the loud voice who used to yell “Tiger Bait!” at LSU football games:
“Big Red and I were State-Times paper deliverers in north Baton Rouge over 40 years ago. Red’s name was James Braswell.
“He was born in Mississippi and moved to Louisiana at an early age. Needless to say, he fell in love with LSU, particularly LSU football.
“No one could yell ‘Tiger Bait!’ like Big Red. You could even hear him as plain as day over the radio.
“I seem to remember an article in the paper asking ‘Where’s Big Red?’ after an illness one football season. Everyone missed him. I also seem to recall some years back reading about his death.
“Those who attended games or listened to LSU broadcasts all the years Red was around will never forget him — he could shout for LSU like nobody has since.”

The stories I've found don't say that, but I remember reading an article a long time ago where the reporter asked him about how he came to use the "bait" part, since bait is what you would use to catch a tiger, not the prey of a tiger. He said something to the effect that that was what fit best, so that's what he used.
Maybe someone with a research account can pull that up.

I have great memories of being a Boyscout usher in the early 70's & watching Big Red do his thing outside the visitor's lockerroom with his bullhorn while we got our assignments. Big Red!
