Do you think LSU will come out slow or swinging in first quarter of BYU game?

It seems like during the first games of a season, teams either come out looking really hot or they come out looking a tad slow and lethargic.

Do you think LSU will be firing on all cylinders right out of the gate vs BYU, or do you think it will take a few series to get things going?

One play, one TD.

Easy.

Kinda depends on if BYU comes out firing on all cylinders.... they do have a warm-up game on us

I think LSU will come out with a lot of energy and excitement, but it won't surprise me if they make a few mistakes and look sloppy. This could be the case for most or even all of the game. I don't expect our offense to be "firing on all cylinders" until a few games into the season.

They will be aggressive, but there will be a few hiccups early I suspect.

This is one of the only things that really concerns me for this game. They say the most progress is made between game 1 and game 2. BYU will have been able to correct issues while we will be just kicking the rust off. Other side of that is we will have game film for aranda and canada to look at and they wont.

Whether we run over them in the 1st quarter or the 4th...it will eventually happen.

I think the players and coaches will be amped up, but there will be first game jitters and some sloppiness.

Offensive play calling will not be overly aggressive - the early plays will be designed to reveal how the defense will react to certain looks. There was a really good post a week or two ago about the first play in last year's Pitt-Clemson game, and how it set up the offense for the rest of the day. This will look a bit like conservative play calling early on.

I don't see much evidence for this claim. There have been PLENTY of examples of blue blood schools looking amazing in big first games, and then the next game, looking like absolute garbage against a cupcake team.

Slow. LSU won't score a touchdown until the second quarter.

I don't expect LSU would run 5 straight times up the middle and throw short on 3rd and 8 if they start their first offensive possession on BYU's 39 yard line like they did against Oregon.

Post 2008 Les was so afraid of a potential turnover that he was more than willing to play ultra-safe instead of calling plays that may have given LSU a chance to score TD's. The start of the Oregon was the PERFECT example of this. 3 vs. 4 matchup and they give you the ball in THEIR territory to start the game. A great opportunity to strike first with an early TD and Les just wants to keep everything safe. Nothing about the play-calling tested Oregon's defense, in the first game of the season, where confusion can sometimes occur. There was no aggression to capitalize on great field position.

I don't know what exactly he'll run, but I doubt Canada would just sit back and accept 3 points while HOPING for 6.

This. Gotta think both Canada and CDA will be looking to make names for themselves early. CEO will want to prove himself worthy of the hire. And the players will be ready.
