I was a student in the 80's when a 9-3 season was great. We didn't expect to dominate teams like Florida. We would win games against most of the SEC, but we could never beat the Florida States, or Miami's of the college football world. But LSU football was fun. We loved it when we succeeded, and didn't like losing, but a loss wouldn't question our love or loyalty to the team.

Expectations are ruining most LSU fans (well, at least the ones on this board). There will be a time in the near future when we will not be that good (10 year cycles). Can you still find enjoyment in the game? I am struggling with that myself.

Wanting to have a better program isn't questioning your loyalty to a team. Doesn't mean you don't love the team any less

we revel in misery

its why after a win, this place is basically a ghost town, but after a loss, its hard to keep a topic on the first page

I would say sometimes....I sure don't like it when we lose, but I can definitely say there have been so many moments that it looked we were so badly coached, that I really couldn't enjoy the win, like I should...Don't think that will change, but who knows....

I enjoy being with family, going back to visit my old haunts, getting a good meal. When we win, I'm happy. When we lose, It bothers me for a few hours, but the sun still comes up the next morning. A sizable proportion of the LSU fan base are just miserable people, and a lot of them are drawn to this site. If you let a football game affect your outlook on life, you need to take a good long look at your priorities.

There was a guy in our section at the Bama game who literally bitched nonstop from kickoff to final whistle, even when something good happened. There's somebody like that around us nearly every game.

There are a lot of teams who records are worse than ours who seem to have a pulse on offense. The shite we trot out there on Saturdays is bumming the fans out.

Its hard to even enjoy the wins save the 2011 when we could blow people out....I hate how miles always plays down to inferior opponents and makes it close games.

It's not that I dislike LSU when we lose. If losing was just the reality of the situation because success is out of reach, so be it. I just hate to waste opportunities that are clearly there.

When i watch LSU football I want the kids to play with intensity, our staff to have them prepared, a staff that calls a game that puts our players in position to win, and no stupid arse plays that show we are undisciplined. If we lose a game because another team has better players, or the ball just falls their way I can live with it. What i hate is when we look like we aren't well coached or we get beat by a lesser opponent.

I got over the Alabama loss pretty quickly. We played our hearts out and nearly beat a championship caliber team. I wasn't happy about it, but i wasn't miserable either. I even started a thread or two about how we need to move on and win out. I did not enjoy seeing us roll over and get dominated vs arkansas. And then we're just fed BS about the gameplan. I have a hard time getting over that.

I for one do not like losing in anything .If you are still happy after losing, come play me some poker. I bet I can help you get over that warm feeling after losing within a week or so, if you aren't happily broke before that. Losing begets losing.

Honestly, yes. Maybe I'm spoiled or whatever, but we are too well resourced in funding and personnel (incl recruits) to be happy "playing others close." I'm beyond that. Now a loss can present some bright spots (seeing a young player step up or seeing packages "click", for instance), but I'm generally not happy with "good losses".

And we don't get too many of those anyway. Most of our close losses (like Bama) involve us fricking something up.

Agree with the OP, expectations have changed how even the fans that have seen hard times respond to each game. Many on here think 8-4, 7-5, 9-3 type years are horrible. This comes with winning most games.

At least the younger ones have an excuse. For them, winning 8-9 games is very bad in their limited experience.

I must admit, I was more excited and happy when LSU pulled the upset in the 70s, 80s, 90's, and from 2000-2003, than I am now. It is all about emotions, I think.

I love LSU football, but in some ways I'm more excited for basketball even though I don't enjoy the sport as much, because I have no expectation of winning a NC in basketball.

I don't mind a loss.
Those happen. And you can accept that.

What is unacceptable is our showing in Fayetteville Saturday.

What is unacceptable is our showing in NOLA on 1-9-12.

Looking lethargic and woefully unprepared and not adapting our gameplan should not be tolerated.

Agree! Many times we are in a position to win and seem to give it away with bad discipline or abandoning something that has been working (Bama). That was a hurtful loss, and I bitched about it for several days. This past weekend I was not nearly as upset because this was just typical "after the season is blown" LSU football, where it looks like the team AND coaches are deflated.

My son and I went to all the home games this year, and he took the losses WAY worse than I did. I had to remind him that it's just a football game, and that he had no reason to be so upset. (He's only 12 so he's never seen really shitty LSU football) We do enjoy all the games, and of course not as much when we lose, but LSU fans have begun to have pretty high expectations lately.

I will continue to bitch about our boneheaded coach and oversimplified battering ram offense, but we will continue to attend and cheer, no matter the outcome, as long as we are able.
