Do we see Lange open up as our Friday starter this week?

We all agree for the most part he will eventually become our Friday guy and I think this week is the perfect timing. He gets a full week of rest being he pitched this last Friday giving him a sense of routine being our Friday guy. It'll also be a home series against a team in which we should overmatch easily.

For the first 4 weeks, I thought that as long as Poche does his thing and keeps winning, there would be no reason to change anything. But the last two weeks have shown that Lange needs to be our Friday guy. Not because Poche is necessarily doing anything wrong/different from what he always has, but that Lange has proven he can go 7+ innings reliably. That is huge for a Friday guy.

And I think PM pulls the trigger this week.

Next year. I don't see Poche being pulled back to Saturday. He is a too good to be shifted. One rough outing does not a pattern make.

Does two?

Because it's been two weeks in a row that he couldn't get to 6 innings.

Again, I don't think Poche is doing anything wrong. And I don't think it would be an overreaction to switch them.

Poche hasn't done anything wrong but getting our ace in there Friday and in turn increase our chances of winning the opening game is huge.

I think it's less about the term "ace" than it is about the guy who is more efficient and can save the pen. There is no doubt that Lange's stuff is better than Poche's. But I think Poche is still further along as a pitcher, if that makes any sense.

Well. He hasn't shown it the last couple weeks. Maybe it's just mental for him right now. It's tough to agree with you that he's got more tools than Lange though. I mean this kid is special and I fully expect him to be able to accept the starting role on Fridays.

What I like best about Lange is his ability to get out of jams. He has shown an amazing ability to get out of sticky situations and minimize damage

I'm saying the opposite. Lange definitely has more tools. And he could handle it. Like I said, I think it happens. But I still wouldn't be upset if Poche stayed there at least 1 more week.

I think it may happen this week. It's not a knock on Poche, but like Ell said, Lange may help us keep the bullpen arms fresh for the weekend.

Lange doesn't have as much experience as Poche, but he seems to have the demeanor to handle it.

Likewise, I see Poche being able to slide back into the Saturday role without it feeling like a demotion.

Regardless of who pitches when, I feel so confident in our starting rotation that it's not even funny.

Let us not forget that this weekend Poche was pitching in the rain, and with little run support. I think you leave him as the Friday guy for a few more weeks. There are plenty of Thursday-Friday-Saturday series left for the switch to be made if necessary.

Yes, it was raining, and that's a factor. But the run support didn't matter because Poche was off his game from the very start.

I agree with you...

Lange is the real deal, finally got to see him live. I think he moves to Friday soon if not next week.

Godfrey looked a lot steadier this Saturday though he did struggle when he first had to pitch from the stretch. He may compete for the "Saturday" spot before the season ends. He out pitched Killian who is pretty good.

Poche had to deal with a very cold day and rain that seemed to occur when he threw and subside when Arkansas pitched, he should be fine.

This as well. Which is why I think Poche stays at the Friday spot.

Having the luxury of debating which to start is nice. I ultimately value Poche's experience over Lange's superior stuff. If Poche comes out again this week and struggles, then OK.

Lange is a power pitcher which is what you want on Friday. Poche is the type of pitcher to go out there and get the job done quietly which is a Saturday/Sunday type guy. I think if latz can return at the end of sec play we can have a top 5 rotation in the country

Poche was the perfect "Saturday guy" behind Nola last year & I think this is the same scenerio. You've got a dominating Friday night guy who can get you a good strong 7-8 innings, slide Poche back to his last year's role as the Saturday starter, & that should keep the bullpen in an advantageous position for the weekend. Poche is a good pitcher but he, & his stuff, may be more suited for Saturdays. If Lange continues to perform like he's been doing, it'll be hard to keep him out of the Friday night spot.
