Helps on offense but hurts on the defensive end. With that said its better than Darcy and company.

Victor had 4 fouls.

So your options are having Quartmerman, Hornsby, Blakeny, and Paterson on the floor together

or

having Darcy or Robinson

Playing the extra guard won us the game. Paterson lit it up

I think the 4 guard lineup won us the game at Bama and it certainly didn't hurt us in this one.

Our best lineup has 2 forwards with Victor and Simmons in the game, but if Victor or Simmons is in foul trouble I absolutely like our 4 guard lineup before going to Elbert or Darcy. Elbert picked up 2 fouls in less than a minute in the first half when they weren't calling fouls for fun... Think about him in the game in the second half where breathing on a player was a foul...

Every personnel decision has to take into account the alternative, and the 4 guard lineup is necessary IMO when one of our bigs is in foul trouble.

The 2-3 zone play without victor was executed extremely well.

Exactly. I just want Hornsby on the floor more to close out games. I get that CJJ thinks that our players are better defensively, but he brings experience, leadership, and usually great FT shooting to the end stretches.

I was shocked that we didn't go back to the 2-3 zone much when we went to the 4 guard lineup but I guess we didn't worry too much about their big men cause they already had some guys foul out...

I expect to see the 4guard lineup with the 2-3 zone more and more as the season goes on.

Well I do not like you. That's our second best line up by far

You're right, it has major disadvantages, but so does the alternative. People need to come to terms with the fact that this team has glaring personnel shortcomings that have to be coached and game planned around. In that respect, Coach Jones is put in a very difficult position. Personally I prefer the small lineup when the other team's personnel package allows it defensively.

Malone, Robinson, and Bridgewater hurt this team if they are out there for extended minutes. If this team had one more competent big it could completely alter the dynamic for the better. It's tragic really. Had Mickey or Martin come back this team's outlook is dramatically different. But for now it is what it is and you have to make compromises.

Well until Brenden Dassey, I mean Creig Victor, learns to stop fouling we're gonna see more of that lineup. But seriously between Bridgewater, Robinson, Epps, and Malone we can't field a backup Center. How sad.

To his defense, probably three of those fouls that were called against him last night were very questionable. They really didn't look like fouls from what I could see on TV. The refs were horrible last night.

That to me seems like the common theme.

Victor fouls because of his being forced to play center when he is a power forward, and always smaller than the man he guards. He gets little help on defense other than the guards doubling down . We have good size, but they are not quality players. This is where the coaching comes in. Playing zone would maybe help the foul situation, but would hurt the boxing out for boards. Our star players need less coaching than our bigs, and it's obviously what will eventually determine the outcome of our team.

How about 2-3 zone with Robinson in the middle.

I definitely agree. The team chemistry just seems to go way down when you get Elbert, Darcy, Epps, and especially combinations thereof in the game. I'd stick to primarily to a seven man rotation and use those guys pretty sparingly. Unfortunately, it seems Sampson has gotten lost in the shuffle too.

One thing that bothers me about the 4 guard lineup is that Simmons still decides to go out to the perimeter and try to put extra pressure on their guards. That's a fine strategy when Victor is in the game for back-up down low. But he really ought to cut that out when we're in the 4 guard lineup. It led to some easy open looks down low or or some easy offensive rebounds for them and I just don't see what good it does.
