"I think we've got great energy." - Johnny Jones at halftime

That comment was enough to turn my phone into a baseball that needed to be thrown as hard as it could at this dummy's head.

Is he dying? Like, does JJ not give a shite anymore and simply doesn't care who knows about it?

He will never coach a team like he had this season again. He has all this talent and he simply didn't care. His approach to the game is similar to a 12 year old AAU coach. That 2 foul rule has been the dumbest thing I've seen in sports history. You're down by 20, put Simmons in.

Which leads me to the next point...

If Ben Simmons is the best player in the NCAA, why does he slap a guy's arm, who is already past him, in a lazy attempt at a steal when he has 2 fouls and just got into the game??

He is young and will be a great NBA player one day but he is still a kid. He needed a coach this season that had control of his team and showed them which direction to go.

This game was icing on the cake. I'm done with JJ. When the guys calling the game are calling him out for poor coaching, that should be enough for any AD. It's time for a real coach at LSU

That halftime comment pissed me off so much. I almost shut the game off right then. I knew from that comment this game was hopeless.

I don't think it's fair to say he doesn't care. that's ridiculous. no one wants LSU basketball to succeed more than Johnny Jones.

It's just painfully obvious that he doesn't know how to push the right buttons with this team. I hate it that John Treloar figuratively fricked us, but whatever the hell Jones' offense is would have cost us regardless.

I would love for Johnny to be an assistant at LSU down the road, but he's got to go.

More than enough for me to turn it off. Real fans ignore shite like this by really turning the TV off,not buying tickets etc. I'm a customer and I'm not buying a shitty product. Go be super fans etc. I will go find something better to do

It's unfair to expect a kid to play at a higher level than the rest of the team, including the coach. Atmosphere plays a huge role in performance, and Simmons is no exception.

I don't want JJ anywhere around the basketball program. He should be permanently banned from the PMAC for life.

How is being in position to play defense asking someone to play at a higher level than his teammates? Simmons has been out of position and slapping to try and make up for it most every game and getting called for it, but he should sure as hell know his foul situation and exercise some restraint. He sometimes seems like a kid who can't control his impulses when he becomes frustrated by actions on the court be it getting beat by an opposing player, officiating, etc.

He's not though. Buddy Hield is. Simmons is just the best NBA prospect in the NCAA. Huge difference

I get that, but don't you think the environment created by the coaching has contributed to his lack of self discipline? He is still young and impressionable.

There is no coaching/teaching. It's plain to see when LSU clearly has no plan against a zone defense (or play a zone defense for that matter). They have no idea how to guard as a team and Jones has no idea how to teach it. I genuinely believe that his silence on the sidelines is not just a "calm demeanor", but that he really doesn't know what to say to fix the problem. This season should prove to everyone that no matter how talented a team is, you can't just "roll the ball out" and let things happen. LSU's plan this season was as close to that as you will get at this level. It's not going to get any better unless he moves from HC to 2nd or 3rd assistant. That's Jones' ceiling at the power conf level.

LSU was under the microscope more this season than they have at any point in Jones' tenure. Countless analyst, announcers, writers have highlighted the clear coaching deficiencies. Yesterday was just a culmination of all those deficiencies.

Alt26 especially nailed it along with the other posters. Johnny is in over his head.

Hopefully something almost miraculous will happen so that Alleva or Alexander will see the light and do what needs to be done.

How do you go from beating a hot Tennessee team to that abomination yesterday?
It can't be 'physical' or 'no legs', A&M had a tough game the previous day too.
And we have never been able to hold a lead and put a team away this season, but after going up 8-3 you just like, GIVE UPPPPP?
THAT early ???
Thst's ALLLL mental. All discipline. All character, consistency, game planning, desire. We had none of it, even after whipping Tennessee.

In this context, "permanently" and "for life" mean the same thing. It's like saying you're home all alone, lonesome, and by yourself. Overkill.
