Disconnect Between Telling and Dupree

I think Etling doesn't trust Dupree to catch the ball. In that last drive Etling had Dupree wide open on two separate occasions. Hit him and one and it doesn't come down to clock management.

Would you trust him in that capacity?

If Etling didn't see him then we might as well start McMillan

You have to

It was one occasion. The the safety was waiting to jump the route on the second. I wouldn't throw it to him if i was Etling either. Dupree is just unreliable.

no doubt about it...honestly, based on what I have seen this season, I can't say I would trust him to catch a ball if the game is on the line.

You've got a great point. Look at that, the blame doesn't need to shoulder on the guy getting paid $5 million a year to know what he's doing, it's the guy getting free Calculus and meals....

Dupre was completely uncovered on two plays in the final two minutes

Yet on one of the crucial 3rd down plays on the last drive, he hit Durpre with a nice 5 yard slant to the inside. Boggles my mind we don't see more of that.

I guess, dude. He seems like option #4 at this point. His play has earned that role.

You have to throw it to him on that first play if you saw him. If he didn't see him, that is a fixable issue. If he saw him and didn't throw it to him, that's a major problem.

If you're talking about those back to back to back plays, I really only saw him wide open on the first one. The other two seemed to have guys in the area that could have made a play.

People make vast generalizations on things like this like the announcers last night. A QB doesn't go through all 3 or 4 progressions on every snap, it just doesn't happen that way. Dupre might have been his 3rd or 4th look on those plays. Considering Etling rarely had time to throw all night, I would suspect he maybe never even got to that progression.
It's easy to be an armchair QB from the comfort of our asses watching TV. There's open WRs every play pretty much, doesnt mean the QB will always see it.
As far as Dupre, he has dug his own hole. I think we ALL got a good laugh last night when one announcer was chirping about Dupre not getting enough passes thrown his way and how he's "At worst" a 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft. You know, like the first 2 weeks when we targeted him FIFTEEN times and he had 3 catches for 24 yards with 5 drops. We work him into the slot to help him just get open for game 3, and finally he has a decent game. He comes back this game and has yet another bad drop. No wonder a QB doesnt throw it his way. Keep dropping passes and see what QB will still throw it to you.

Agree with everything. The second play the safety was spying Dupre in from the endzone & would have had an easy pick. If Etling did see him it was the right read. Dupre just looks like he is playing timid at this point.

Nope just didn't see him. He hits him if he does.

The announcers were awful regarding those comments, and also saying "offensive coordinator Les Miles was from the same home town as Etling, so he had an in here." Dumb fricks.

Yea I think it was just the one too. That announcer was just awful
I think the oline had a lot to do with that. He was too worried about giving up a sack to read his progressions.
Sucked though because there is that game
Also - the post a few above here - it is possible to have several reasons for the loss. Obviously it al comes down to less, but etling hits a wide open dupre there... And we are 20 seconds from a win

Dupree is a wr that can't catch, so I think the disconnect is warranted
I did see Anderson in on a few plays and was excited.

This is incorrect. Dupre was running a streak down the down seam. If Etling throws the ball to Dupre flat, on a rope then the safety has a chance but he throws the ball high with touch, only Dupre would have had a chance to catch it.

For sure on the 2nd to last play I remember Etling staring down the WR wide right. No reads or progressions- probably assumed would have no pocket by that point. Can't say I blame him.
