Did Steele know what he was getting in to?

He had to have known that he could potentially be gone after one year. You would think Chavis would have filled him in on what was going on behind the scene if they are such good friends. I hope he's been renting an apartment and didn't buy a house. He's gotta be rethinking his decision lol

I'm sure he can land a job somewhere if he's canned.

I don't think even Chavis expected it to happen year

They may very well been planning this.
He was probably a stop gap to begin with. I don't think Steele deserves half the hate he is receiving. He is one of the few to agree to come in on short notice and work with the assistant coaches provide.. He did what he was suppose to do, help build this defensive class working with Coach O.
Also, look around the league, there are way worse DC's.. Look at the Ark/Miss St game.. 50+ points each.. look at the Ark/Ole Miss game prior. He did decent with what he had to work with.. Steele to me was never a long time hire.. It may actually be a blessing that we were able to address the defensive needs and set up the next DC in good shape.
I don't think he is regretting it at all, because he can always go right back to being a linebackers coach.. here or somewhere else..

Did Steele get a raise?

The timing was bad when we were looking for a new DC and most candidates were probably aware of the situation simply by the fact that Chavis was making a lateral move.
Im really curious as to what the actual perception of the job is to the coaches we are pursuing now. If in fact we are in a search and don't have someone lined up already.

FIFY
Obviously there are plenty of issues, but they were greatly magnified this season due to not being able hold a single team under lsu's defensive scoring average this century
We beat ole miss scoring 10pts last year and took bama to OT with 14. Miles is gone last year if Steele was his DC

he was happy anyone wanted to make him a DC again, much less pay him a cool million to do it

Look at how much difference in salary Steele ag LSU vs Chavis at LSU for your answer. Alleva didn't allow Miles to go out and get the best.

Miles had a strict budget for all of his hires and Alleva was not going to allow him to spend a penny more.

steele was a head scratching shite hire for anyone that ever played the game. I was perplexed that the idiot hired him.

Saban will always take Steele back in a heartbeat.

Of course he knew, it ain't like teams were knocking down his door.

I always imagined a Saban/ Fisher phone call after the Steele hire.
"Jimbo, did you hear who these idiots just hired."
With his feet kicked up on his desk.

How in the hell did we end up with 3 actual rejects running our offense, defense, and special teams?
