I was distracted during the ninth and didn't really get to look at his pitching. Did he throw all fastballs like last year? I'd heard he developed a slider, or something. He could be a great closer, but if all he can locate is a fastball he'll be spotty.

He threw a couple change and sliders after the first two batters connected, and kept the next few batters off balance. Fastball was also hitting around 96.

First two batters didn't have too much trouble finding it. They were fastball hunting. After he flashed the change up hitters looked off balance. I guess they had last years scouting report on him?

I would always sit dead red on his fastballs, they are flat. Until he shows he can throw the off-speed pitches, always will be fastball hunting.

The speed of his fastball doesnt really matter when its that flat.

He absolutely needs offspeed pitches to have a chance at succes

I just really can't believe in 2 years he hasn't developed a 2 seam fastball.

The two change ups he threw were very nice. One of the sliders got hung and fouled off. If he can consistently keep the pitches down in the zone, and batters off balance with the change/slide/gas combo he should have more success than last year. If he uses the FB to get out of jams, he's gonna get lit up like a Christmas tree.
