LSU doesn't need to learn a spread offense. There is nothing wrong with LSU's philosophy. The problem is the design, play calling, and execution of the philosophy. Bama just won a NC with LSU's power philosophy with just more formations, presnap shifts and motions, and smarter play calling.

LSU's problem has not been spread teams the last couple of years. LSU hasn't been able to stop running teams.

You reference a game from 2008 with probably the worst defense in the Miles era to prove your point? Since you brought it up total yards for Troy was 380 which isn't exactly lighting it up. Their QB was 34-72 less than 50 percent and in the second half LSU figured them out and only allowed 7 and 0 after 11 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

We dont need the spread. We need to execute the plays we run. You people think we are predictable yet want us to run the spread. You do realize that lsu runs plays out of more formations than every spread team right?
Those great oregon offenses ran the same exact play 50% of the time.
Im all for implementing some spread concept but at its core the spread is the size of the players you have at the h and y positions and where you line them up.

The answer is not the spread. The answer is smarter play calling and better QB coaching.

Spot the frick on. We also need better talent evaluation at the qb position.

What? He is on Saban's level. Did you just forget that saban lost a ton of games at lsu?

2000-4 losses( including uab)
2001 -3 losses
2002-5 losses
2003-1 loss
2004- 3 losses

2011-1 loss
2012-2 losses
2013-3 losses
2014 5 losses
2015-3 losses

ETA: and Saban's tenure was in a sec era where 3 conf losses wins you the west. Saban at lsu never once faced a sec team that even played in the title game. While Miles is coaching in the most dominant era of sec football ever

He cant because there are none. Baylor would be the closest thing and they are about to go back to being crap without Briles.

Did LSU learn any spread offense in offseason?

Good points I look at all of the coaches that have won nation championships running the spread and then I remember how painful it was when LSU LOST to Troy that year.

we're not going, of course, to "THE spread" offense, but we should see more shotgun, more 3 and 4 WR sets, more misdirection, more passing on 1st down especially from the shotgun, more passes to the WR's, RB's and TE's, more Fournette from the shotgun in single back sets, more pass run options for Harris. For one thing trying to back defenses out the box, spreading the defense out and giving them more of the field that they have to defend thus also giving Fournette more room to run.

You could call it more of the same Pro style if you want or spread elements if you want or say it is already in the playbook or say it is what we always have been doing. Doesn't matter.

We'll be more open on offense, less predictable even if you think we are already very unpredictable. We'll do a better job of getting more people involved in the offense and getting them in space,. Even if that is what you think we already do.

That's what Miles and Cam were trying to observe and learn more about this offseason. It's what they were trying to implement to some extent last season. We'll see it this season or we will end up in the middle of the SEC west again and Miles/Cam will be gone.

Yes, there's an extra foot between LF7 and JD Moore.

LSU tight ends adding bulk

That article is a good indicator. Les is fattening his tight ends for more blocking, not running or receiving. Our FB is the teams #1 asset. If the FB goes down, goodbye LSU offense.

You have no clue what youre talking.
You realky think it was losing Moore last year that stalled our offense or that the qb had a sports hernia and had trouble connecting in short and intermediate passes?

I called it

This board has shifted back to loving Miles as the offseason progressed

I like the moves made this offseason but folks need to realize we have to spread he ball out to beat Alabama. It just has to happen.

May not need to go full spread, all the time. But LSU has to be able to line up all those receivers and force teams to honor the passing game

Some spread wouldn't hurt.

But, then again, Les Miles.
