Forever a players coach, I guess.

Was Russell Shepard a flop?

I don't see why not. If he didn't play well, he didn't play well. He knows it, you know it, the fans know it so why can't you just say it?

He's speaking the truth for himself right or wrong. It's a style thing. There was no tell the truth Monday for Les.

Les can handle a press conference how ever he wants. I doubt he ever does it again as a head coach.

Coaches are all going to have different styles when giving post game and mid week press conferences. In my opinion, the head coach looks like a buffoon when he won't say the most obvious of things about a player's poor play. You don't have to bash a player, or place the blame on one kid, but sometimes it helps a fan base have confidence in a coach when he can identify an area that needs improvement and show that they know how to correct it.

Well sometimes it needs to be said, especially when it's an absolute fact.

Well, it would seem like unnecessary overkill if

How about something like "The kid played hurt all spring, and delayed his back surgery to be here today"? Family takes care of family

Not really because if you try to deny it when everybody else knows it's true, you lose credibility.

Seems like you're already ready for Coach O to fail at this tenure also

I kinda prefer a "truth be told" kinda coach I feel it helps players understand where they are at and where they need to be.

Now that doesn't mean in a throw a kid under the bus way but subtle and to the point. Can't put lipstick on the pig if the play or player wasn't up to par.

Shouldn't he be getting his team ready for the fall? Oh wait...

We know Les, you would really say,

"Certainly there is a want to advance the ball down the field with greater efficiency. Danny's back will be fine, he will return to health."

Denying is different than not feeling like he needs to state the obvious. If I know the coach is aware of a poor performer, I don't need to be told that he knows. You don't coach from the podium anyway.

I'm OK with saying something too, but I'm also OK with not.

At this level, players should be held accountable to their performance on and off the field. CEO's job is also somewhat in the hands of these players. They have to perform or he is out of work. So, I have no issue with CEO telling it how it is in a respectful way. Someone, and hopefully all of the QB's, will listen to his statement and step up their game to earn the spot. This is the way it should be.

Fluffing these kids constantly doesn't necessarily inspire them to work harder. Sometimes, they need a good kick in the arse.

As long as CEO is the first one there to say "great job" when Etling turns it around, I Have no problem at all with what he said. A balance of praise and discipline always nets better results.

Kudos Ed O. Miles is wrong.

You're correct, it is. However, omitting the obvious makes people wonder if the coach is able to recognize the obvious.

You think Les would say anything about Etling's surgery??? We'd probably never know.
