Did Dale Brown get a lot of other job offers while he was at LSU?

Wondering how many times he declined offers so he could stay at LSU.

There were rumors of NBA jobs but I don't recall any college jobs or certainly anything that got to the serious discuss stage.

I would be interested to know if anyone was ever interested in Dale and his contemporaries like Bobby Knight and Lute Olson. I think they began in an era where jumping from job to job was frowned upon. So my suspicion is people assumed guys like that were going to stay.

Dale did an April fools joke when Shaq was a Sophomore. He said he was leaving for the NBA (forget which team) and he was going to draft Shaq #1 that year. I can't find the video but some people lost their minds over it.

He turned down the UCLA job. I think it was a year or 2 after his first final four appearance. He formally made the announcement at a pep rally.

I remember UCLA making overtures to Brown during the late 70's. I don't think he ever interviewed with them or anyone else.

Fuller Brush, Mary K and all the major door to door vacuum cleaner companies were all over Brown when he was in his prime.

nitwit is a good name for you. Dale Brown coached LSU to two final fours, two more elite 8's, one more Sweet 16, four SEC Titles, one SEC Tournament Title, 13 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, two NIT appearances and won 448 games during his career at LSU. That is a level of accomplishment.

Cut the Sports Bar Sarcasm Regerence about Fuller Brush and Mary K.

Dale might've blown it with Shaq and CJ, but he brought some of the most exciting players ever in and LSU basketball was extremely exciting for a long time until his last four years or so.

It is mind-blowing that LSU held the NCAA and Pro record for single-game basketball attendance for many years with their game in the Dome against Notre Dame (68,000+) and LSU still has three of the largest regular season attendances of all time due to that era. Looking at where we are now, it's hard to believe. Between the crowds and 10 straight tourneys, it was extremely impressive.

It was with the Clippers. Still remember falling for it and then thinking it isn't possible, draft order hasn't been set.

Yes, Knight had NBA offers. I think I remember him on Letterman saying he preferred the college schedule and fishing to coaching in the NBA.

This one was the year before. It was a better match up.
It was Georgetown with Alonzo Mounring and Dikembi Mutombo.
