Thank God the NFL rule is not the college rule, or we would have lost to the Sun Devils in Les' first game.

Who remembers Early dropping ball when he hit the ground?

As per the college rules, it was a catch. Florida beat Tennesseei in the last minute of one game when the receiver caught the ball for the smallest of time, then got hit by a UT defender and dropped the ball. It was ruled that the receiver had possession with both feet down in the endzone, touchdown.

I think the Dez non-catch would have been a TD in the NFL in 2005 as well. I will not swear to it though. I say this because the first time I remember this type of non-catch, happened in 2010 with the Lions in the NFL.

That was, also, not a catch. Refs do get things wrong, a lot.

I guess that Fla-Tenn play is similar to Lance Moore's 2 pt conversion in the super bowl. Possession clearly established with the ball over the plane. Then knocked out by defender. Once possession and crossing the plane is established, the play is over.

Dez's was a catch. 3 steps negates the Calvin Johnson rule. The never-played-football nerd refs fricked it up.....again. He caught it, forearm tucked it, and dove for the goal line (football move). It was clearly a catch. Reversal guy should have his arse kicked.

With all that said, The Cowboys would have lost anyway. Too much time left for Rodgers to drive for the winning score.

He didn't dive, he was falling down. That's why it wasn't a catch by the NFL rulebook. He has to maintain possession after contacting the ground, he didn't..no catch. NFL hasn't even flinched in backing up the call, they didn't say "oh it was a tough one", they basically said it was an easy call to make.

I remember the good ole days when a catch was a catch. Two hands on the ball and two feet on the ground. These fricking dorks get bored and add shite just to be dicks.

The rule is dumb anyway. Once you have possession and 2 feet down, nothing else should matter.

Had Bryant been in the end-zone when the catch was made and taking two full strides with ball in hands it would have been ruled a touchdown; plain and simple.

They had vice president of officiating on Sirius today and asked him that exact question. Would it have been different if the ball broke the plane. He said no, it would have been the same call, the same rule applies. That he never established himself as a runner, he would still be completing the catch which includes maintaining possession after impact with the ground. Dez was never running after he caught the ball, only stepping as he fell to the ground. Still turnover on downs, still green bays ball.

When it is said it is your judgment, I wouldn't say they "basically said it was an easy call".

“We deemed that by our judgment to be the full process of the catch, and at the time he lands and the ball hits the ground, it comes loose as it hits the ground, which would make that incomplete,” Steratore said.

Yeah, it's true..they never said that. But they also, have not flinched, and never said it was a hard call, or that the ref did the best he could. I've watched before when the refs have hedged on it afterwards saying the call could have gone either way...they've been pretty clear that they only saw this call going one way from the start.
