We haven't gone up against a guard like him at all this year. He's a 6'4 guard and can score from all over the floor and can completely dominate a game. Shooting over 50% from both the floor and from 3s and is 90% from the FT line.

Coming off screens, contested with a hand in his face, pull up off the dribble, take you to the rack, etc... It doesn't matter, kid can flat out fill it up. His lowest scoring game is 12pts this year, his only game to score below 15pts. And he's only scored below 20points in just 5 games and had 19pts in 2 of those.

So how do you defend him? Who do you put on him?

Mix of Q and AB most likely.

I just can't imagine him being anymore effective than Moody was from Ole Miss.

Granted, Oklahoma is much better as a team, and if Hield plays like Moody did we'll be in trouble, but I've set that as my baseline expectation. Expect the worse, enjoy anything better than that - it has been my motto on this board since I joined.

You don't. He'll get his points no matter what. Try and shut down the other guys.

Honestly, he's the best college player I've seen in several years. He's fun to watch and Oklahoma will likely win. But I will say this- LSU gets up for big games like this. They have big bodies at the G position. If they D up and Hield has a less than stellar game, we could compete.

Some rantard on here will probably say that we need to go with a box and 1 because that's what the rantard's junior high basketball team.

The real answer is we need to play with great effort on the defensive end.... And cross our fingers that he has an off night. Garrett Temple isn't walking through that door for us on Saturday.

Well, depends the lineup. I think Blakeney does the best job guarding the best guards this year, but he won't start. So I guess it will be Tim, which Im' not a huge fan of. Tim loves to take chances and can get burned a lot. Hornsby has to lock down Cousins and JP matches up well with Woodard. Hield gets the hype, but Woodard and Cousins are just as dangerous

The thing with TQ is that his defensive effort hasnt always been there this season and we're gonna need him on the offensive end if we're gonna have a chance to beat them.

IMO, Chasing Hield around the floor for most of the game will tire him out and take away from him on the offensive end, which has alreasy been up and down as it is.

Try your best to limit him, but I'd focus on the other 4 guys first. He'll get his no matter what, but we can stop Spangler, Cousins, and co. from getting theirs. We do that and hit our shots and I think we walk out with the W.

Don't let any of the other guys have a day

Platoon on him. Start with tim, then Hornsby, patterson, blakeney, ben. Dont want tim or keith to pick up a couple cheapies or we're screwed

I agree with this. Thinking the same thing.

Whoever picks up Hield needs to pick him up full court and do their best to deny him the ball.

I'd let TQ guard him at times, but not a lot (reasons stated above). But I would let Blakeney pick him up for majority of the time. Works his arse off on the defensive end of the floor and brings lots of energy to that side of the floor as well. Plus, he's got some serious hops and could disrupt Hields jumper.

And believe it or not, I'd let Josh Gray pick him up for a few minutes here and there. Not a lot, just a little to give Blakeney a break. Say what you want about his offensive game, but he's a very good defender with quick hands and feet and is very good at picking up players full court. And he plays as hard on the defensive end as anyone we've got. Hes the type of defender that annoys and pesters offensive players and can poke the ball away from them. Hopefully he could do that vs Hield for a few mins here and there.

But yea I think Hield is too good and will get his no matter what. Focus on taking the other 4 guys away and make Hield beat you by himself. Hoeofully he doesn't.

Also think whoever is on Spangler will be a big matchup. It'll be either Simmons or Victor. But they don't have much experience guarding bigs who can play and shoot from the perimeter, which is what Spangler does. Pretty much a stretch 4.

We couldn't stop Moody so I don't see us stopping Hield. Just contain his teammates and we'll be fine. He can't beat us by himself.

JJ talks to Daddy and they implement "The Freak Defense" and LSU wins walking away like the good old days . The Freak was designed specifically to shut down one aspect of an offense.

He's a prolific scorer, just switch off on him and not give him open looks and gotta hope he misses some.

Now he is prone to turnovers. He had 10 one game this year and had a couple of crucial ones at the end that cost them the Kansas game. So maybe we can get some of those.
