bullshite. how old are you? dale brown did more for lsu with promoting the university, elevating basketball program to a high level, motivated all the athletic programs, and came into plenty of young men lives and made them better. You should be ashamed for making a statement like that for something you obviously don't know shite about

Dale did alot of good things for folks in need and has done countless charitable and commendable acts..many more than I'll ever do in my lifetime.
But he also has another side and that can be as ugly as the good stuff is goo.
One thing..it was never boring. Like Manny being Manny it was Dale being Dale.
All the drama and BS got very old for me but for those who were good with that..hey, bless 'em.

Dude get a clue. In 1978 Kentucky was the bullies of the SEC they had the other schools, referees and the SEC office totally intimidated they did whatever they wanted and no one stood up to them until Dale Brown began doing it when he got to LSU. I saw those teams play and can tell you Mike Phillips was without a doubt the dirtiest player to ever play in the SEC and Rick Robey despite his New Orleans catholic school league background was not far behind. Dale challenged them and wouldnt stand back and keep his mouth shut with their arrogant crap he called them on it. That is why they hated him so much. He also ended up as the coach who beat Kentucky more than any other coach in history and beat them by the biggest margin at Kentucky ever. One of my best memories was when early in Dale's tenure LSU was getting screwed at Kentucky and the officials were letting Kentucky get away with everything. Finally Dale had enough and walked out on the court and threw his jacket on the Kentucky map at center court. Also in the 2nd LSU-KY game in 78 in Baton Rouge LSU beat the eventual national champion in OT with all 5 starters fouled out. Dale made LSU basketball!!!!!! Give him the credit he deserves. He stood up to those arrogant pricks and LSU became a force from the late 70's through the early 90's thanks to Dale.!
yeah, but have you ever masturbated?

Damn good and accurate post about Daddy Dale, Rudy. Also, everybody always wants to talk about the Pitino comeback game, but nobody ever remembers the 76-41 LSU win at Rupp in 87. Remember in 87, they changed the score of the game at half when LSU was in the locker room. KY basketball is one of the great cheat programs of all time. It looks like they are tired of being average and hired their newest cheater.

Guy might have saved himself some grief if he would have just admitted it..

Skip Bertman and his 5 NC's have something to say about that. Well to be totally correct 4 were in the 20th century.
To be totally correct it's 5. There was no 0 A.D., the calendar starts with Year 1 A.D. So the 20th century started on January 1, 2001.

In any event, specs1 always chimes in with some highway patrol story and claims Brown was a lousy guy or some such crap. When Dale came to LSU, the program was in the toilet. He went from high school to high school hanging purple and gold nets and trying to build interest in the program. You need only look at how he handled the Lester Earl apology to know what kind of guy he was.
Dale Brown to a reporter: "Have you ever masturbated?"
In terms of the Kentucky quote, Kentucky threw elbows right and left. They were a big burley team, especially Roby and Phillips. The reporter's question was no question at all. It was an accusation. It was an implication that LSU played basically the same way. LSU didn't. Brown resented the UK thuggery, and he resented the implication. It was a ridiculous question. Brown's answer was a classic pissed coach's response. Not appropriate if left to stand out of context by itself; but in context, it was understandable.

There were many embarassing incidents w/ Dale Brown at LSU. Those incidents eventually led to his dismissal. He also, continually caused trouble w/ the NCAA. Some people have the impression that Dale was great for LSU. I agree he elevated the Basketball program, but he caused alot of embarassment also.
yeah he was only the coach for 25 yrs, went to 2 Final 4s, and is I think the second most winningest coach in SEC history

Thanks LSU92 and yea the 87 game was what I was referring to. Until Gillespie arrived that was Kentucky's biggest loss ever at home. If I remember correctly back in Dale's first year Joe B Hall's no class self left his starters in until the very end and beat LSU by about 32. At the coaches handshake Dale told Joe B that one day he was going to come in to Rupp and beat Ky worse than they just beat LSU. In 87 he did it! Not to mention several other arse kickings Dale gave them such as 81,82 and 83 in Baton Rouge.
There are some clueless guys on here some probably think Chris Jackson was a better point guard then Ethan Martin!!!!!!!!

Let's see...the original poster of this thread is Speedy...with a 31 year old "story".
And, and...did ya hear about, about when Pete Maravich missed a jump shot in 1968? !!?? And, and when, when James Naismith (look him up) used a peach basket instead of nylon nets when he invented basketball?

Huey P Long did a ton for LSU...like building Tiger Stadium when noone wanted it built. Moving the campus to its current locale. etc.
Just throwing that out there.
LSU moved to its present location and had its initial buildings constructed years before Long became governor. Huey had nothing to do with the move, and I'm sure we'd have a nice football stadium even if Long wasn't governor when construction began on it. If Long had not been governor LSU would probably not have suffered the indignity of the LSU scandals and its President and other officers going to jail for embezzelemnt. Long and his cronies turned LSU into a cookie jar for political appointees.
Just throwing that out there.

Only on the rant can a feel-good story from the past like the time Dale Brown ask a reporter if he'd ever masterbated, spark a heated arguement.
