CPM took too long to adjust to the new bats

When the NCAA switched to the new bats it ushered in the small ball era. Although the new balls are a huge improvement, turning the game back into baseball at least, it is still a pitchers' game. The last few years we've seen teams win it while batting 25 points less than this year's LSU squad.
CPM kept recruiting as though it was all about hitting. A college coach has to decide what positions he's going to spend his scholarships on, and it wasn't until last year that Manieri got serious about pitching. We've had some great ones recently, but never enough to win the CWS imo. Even the year we actually won it, we barely had the pitching necessary.
There is no reason for schools like Vandy, TCU, UCLA, and Florida to consistently have better bullpens than LSU. Hopefully we'll keep recruiting pitchers like we did last year, and build a championship bullpen.

The way we looked after Poche and Lange on the mound was disappointing. I know Bain had some decent games but overall, our bullpen was weak.

It takes a balance remember 2011 and 2012 the first couple years of the new bats, we sucked at hitting and it cost us a lot of games. WE had good guys pitching but many times a guy would throw a gem of a game but would still lose because we couldn't put up any runs.
Offense has come back to Omaha this year, I think there is a good balance. We have a young bullpen which is what cost us this year. If you are so concerned about our pitching just look at what we will have next year
Friday Lange
Saturday Poche
Sunday Latz/McKay
Weekday Norman/Godfrey/Bain
Pen
McKay/Latz
Godfrey
Bain
Norman
Newman
Reynolds
Stallings
Bugg
I may be missing a couple freshman arms. But LSU will be stacked in the pen next year. We had one guy who got significant innings who was a senior this year, no Juniors. If we make it to Omaha next year it will be because of our pitching.

You're right on all points. We should be stacked at pitching next year. That was one of the points I was trying to emphasize, that last year we finally brought in a great group of pitchers. Hopefully we'll keep it up.
Your optimism for next year, though, doesn't make allowances for injuries. Latz, for example, is worrisome. Other injuries will come up. And further to another one of the points you made, it does take balance, and will we have adequate hitting next year?
