Could Malik Morgan have played his final game as an LSU Tiger?

Prior to the knee injury, I had Morgan as a potential transfer candidate given his talent/playing time ratio.
Losing only Stringer, Coleman, and maybe O'Bryant next year leaves either 2 or 3 scholarships available. Next years class brings in 4 new scholarship players:
PG Josh Gray
PG Jalyn Patterson
PF Aaron Epps
C Elbert Robinson

I thought this season would be Morgan's breakout, given his length and shooting, but he never turned the corner. Next season will feature a backcourt rotation of Hickey, Hornsby, Quarterman, Gray, Patterson.

Its worth noting that I have very little insight on Morgan's connection/commitment to LSU, just a thought.

Patterson won't get time before Morgan. Horsby is the only other true SG. Plus Morgan has played the 3 some this season so he probably can play that if needed. So yes he will play next season

I really hope not. I like his game. He has become a stopper on D- much like G. Temple (granted it took him a few years to become one of the best stoppers in Tiger history.) But I do see that effort and desire. The shots are going to be hard to come by with this roster- but he is a valuable part. He deserves so much better! I pray for a full return.

I really enjoy his game too. We all know he's a better shooter than he's shown us here at LSU. But,

This is what worries me. He's only getting 15 mpg this year and probably won't get much more, if any more, minutes next season. I do hope that he returns though!

i don't know much about recruiting and scholorships. if a school has 4 guys coming in and only 2 leaving, could they just "cut" 2 players already on the team? how do these scenarios typically play out?

13 scholarships, 2 walk-ons. 15 roster spots. Elleshoe mentioned Hammink walking on to free up a scholarship, which is possible, but if he wants a scholarship, he could transfer. Usually these things play themselves out with time though. Only the strong survive basically.

First you would see who declares. I think O'Bryant will declare so that leaves one more player to make room. If Mickey goes pro, everything is settled. If not, either Hammink walks on or someone transfers.

Yes, scholarships are now 1 year deals not 4, so you can pull a guy's scholarship. (To bring a different sport in, this is how Raph Rhymes walked on his last year so CPM could use his scholly for a different player).

Scholarships have been year to year for about 20 years, I believe when the max was cut from 15 to 13.

Why is it assumed Hammink might be released? With 2 bigs coming in maybe Odo will be processed. Especially if Malone shows promise since they would have three years for him to continue his development.

1. He has the money to pay for school himself. (Thanks for the reminder elleshoe )
2. His ceiling appears to be significantly lower than all of our other scholarship guys.
3. Given recent foul troubles and the new rules, JOB/Elbert/Mickey will be in foul trouble quite often, Hammink cannot help you out there.

It seems everything is also premised on JOB leaving. Epps will also be a part of the front line and with Malone that would give Mickey, Martin, Epps Robinson and Malone which should be adequate. The new fouling rules seem to have more impact on backcourt players trying to defend dribble penetration.

We can't presume the Hamminks are wealthy enough to cover out of state tuition. Possible but who knows how Geert managed his pro income. Lot could have happened.

I am sure the staff will figure out the best way to approach it.

Very possible malik is done. Id imagine if hickey comes back, which he should, gray will play mins at the 2.

This. I think Gray moves over to the two spot. He plays PG in JUCO but I'd imagine moving him to 2 with Hornsby.

So if JOB is the only player we lose to the draft, what does the starting lineup look like next year?

Hickey
Hornsby/Gray
Martin
Mickey
Robinson

G: 1. Hickey 2. Quarterman 3. Patterson
G: 1. Morgan 2. Hornsby 3. Gray
F: 1. Martin 2. Hammink
F: 1. O'Bryant 2. Bridgewater 3. Epps
F: 1. Mickey 2. Robinson 3. Odo 4. Malone

ETA: just having fun here, its impossible to predict
*Dumped Eddlestone and Shortess for 2 more spots to make 15. 2 of these guys will have to walk on for this roster to work.
*Assuming Morgan returns
*I really think JOB will return next year. Earliest I've seen him projected was mid 2nd round, which is a waste 90% of the time. He has the size and potential to be a 1st rounder though.
