Corby Meekins - Frank Wilson Replacement?

Former prep coach Meekins becomes Houston's ace
Maybe promote O and bring this cat in to coach RBs. We could take Texas over.
ETA: He's making $161,000 at Houston. Could get him for a quarter and promote O to Asst. Head Coach/Recruiting coordinator/Dline Coach. Since Frank was getting $660,000. We could give O $750,000 (currently getting $445,000) and still have a surplus of about $105,000.
Just food for thought.

Orgeron does not want to be the recruiting coordinator.

Number one rule in employee compensation is that money does not make people happy but lack of it makes them unhappy. So you propose to replace a person who was making north of $600K with someone making $250K...
First of all he would be a fool to take it and then he would become instantly unhappy as he would be lowest paid person on staff in one of the most crucial positions. No inspiration to do the job.
Compare to Aranda hire. Was making $550K at Wisc. Was given $1.3M at LSU... No problem with inspiration.

Believe me you wouldn't when you realized every one around you made more than double what you make...
It has been shown that "raise effects" last about 3-4 months and after that time the employee acclimatizes to the pay level and believes they are underpaid again or at least due more in near future. Instant dissatisfaction comes when one learns that a coworker of equal or lesser value makes more money than you. Self valuation is almost always more than what you see in peers... I aint makin this up dude.

We don't need to replace Frank Wilson with Texas ties. We need to replace him with someone who will lock up New Orleans.

No thank you!!! He can stay at Houston.

So you're telling me he wouldn't be happy and motivated with a $100,000 raise? Right....
Put away your employee rule of compensation for a second, and think real world. If someone came to you and offered you a very prestigious job, and to double your pay, you wouldn't take it because some of your new, longer tenured pals would be making more. Especially at a place that has been known to reward their assistants with higher pay rates than anywhere else in the country?
He'd be a fool to take that? If I went to any one of my employees and said I'm doubling your pay with potential for more, but Johnny will still be making a lot more, and doing less.....they would jump in my arms and call me the best boss ever.
You see, for someone already making $750,000, a $100,000 pay raise may not be a big deal. For someone making $125,000, a $100,000 pay raise is life changing.
That's real world employee compensation

I don't think you understand what he is saying, and he is indeed speaking in real world terms. Sure, he would be thrilled at the raise. He would be getting almost double what he was making. He'd be happy as shite....for a short time. Then he'd look around, realize that his coworkers are making a LOT more than he is, and start to wonder why his value isn't what the other's is. Conversations would turn from "thanks for the raise!", to "I really appreciate the raise, but why do I make less than half what the other guy who has been here for only a year longer than me. And that guy started out at twice what I did."
That is the reality of it. And had you ever been the guy in charge of making sure your employees are happy, you would understand that.

Because you were a high school coach a year ago and only have one season college coaching experience, whereas everyone else on staff has several, some even in the NFL

Well, i dont think that Frank started out like that, he proved his worth, thus he got incremental pay raises throughout his career here, its how it works, this new cat would be unproven at LSU so you offer him more than what he is making now, with an obvious upgrade in school status and thus giving him the "opportunity" to prove himself more... You dont want to hire someone that isnt intrinsically motivated anyway, and this type of pay plan accomplishes that. It forces someone to work harder to gain more "treasure" and "status" thus both he and his employer "win"...
