Haha, "injury"....dude has been sloppy at first since the SEC Tournament and Maineri sat his arse down under the guise of an "injury" to get his head right.

They said he was taking ground balls at first before the game. I doubt he has a injury that is forcing him onto the bench. Slaughter just got another shot last night.

With Watson emerging to sit behind Deichman, and Pap having great at bats, CPM probably feels we can sacrifice defense for offense at first base.

His feelings might be injured after Zach went 3-4 with 2 hr's protecting Deichman

They said he had a thumb injury on the pregame radio show before last night's game.

They showed him leaning on the fence and it looked like his left hand and thumb as taped up.

So semi-related...

What did y'all think of Slaughter last night? To me he looked solid defensively, and got his first hit in probably a few months. Had some shaky at bats too, was the last out in innings at least a couple times.

He messed with him thumb when he dove back into 1st when he almost got caught off the bag on Friday. He got up and was messing with it.

He also hasn't been very good at 1st the last 3 weekends. He's missed a scoop multiple times every weekend since Mississippi State.

On the tv broadcast last night Dave Neal said that Coomes was out of the lineup because he was "banged up."

He looked super solid when he over ran that pop up in foul territory and then the dude left the park on the next swing. He also looked real solid on the next pop up in foul territory running around with noodle legs.

Slaughter is a CPM favorite and Coomes has been really good defensively on the whole. He dipped hitting but that's a recent phenomenon. Unless Slaughter learned how to hit a breaking ball his shortcomings on offense will speed Coomes' re-entry to the lineup.

Not if 8/9 in the line up are hitting. Slaughter may not help us score many runs, but if we are putting up 9 anyway then it may benefit us more having him at first to save them from scoring a few.

What Coach Mainieri did is not without precedent. Hanover supplanted Helenihi for most of 2009. When the postseason came and Hanover couldn't field bunts and was missing ground balls to third, he got lifted for Helenihi. He couldn't hit, but he could catch.

that's what I thought immediately after seeing Slaughter at first. hell, PM was probably livid at him Friday when KRob threw to first and Coomes had "abandoned" the position.

I mean, of all postitions to not pay attention, first base? plus, he missed some balls in the dirt that were not that tough to field.

I think Kramer led off at least half of the innings.

If Coomes cannot play, I get it due to injury. If he can play, I don't get it. I have no problem moving Coomes down in the order!.

I really don't mind having Slaughter at 1st. Our defense is much better with him in the game. Remember that diving play he made to end the game in the SEC tournament...no way Coomes makes that play. He also scoops much better than Coomes.

While he isn't the best hitter at this point in his career...he looked just as good last night as Coomes has recently. I say keep him in the lineup for a while & see what he does. He hits the ball hard when he gets a hold of it.

You can always put Coomes back in if Slaughter can't produce offensively. Maybe some time off for Coomes will get him out of his 2 month hitting slump.

Having Slaughter at first?? I'd take Coomes all day every day over Slaughter
