Conservative Play-calling in 2nd half ... overblown critique

I watched the 2nd half vs Auburn yesterday. Based on The Rant, I was expecting "up the middle, up the middle, up the middle: Punt!" That's not what I saw.
3rd Q, 3 drives:
5 pass, 3 runs
4 pass, 4 runs
3 pass, 3 runs.
Balanced,not conservative.
4th Q
2 passes, 4 runs (up by 21 w 12 mins left in game)
1 pass, 2 runs (up by 21, 6 mins left in game)
0 passes, 3 runs (up by 14, Jeremy Hill 3 carries, 3 mins left in game).
So, up by 14 with 3 minutes left in the game, we run JH 3 times. No, we didn't get a first down (again; late stages of a game). I'll accept that as a critique, but not a:
Overall, I disagree with criticizing our play calling in the 2nd half as "conservative."

Thank you!
Can we not credit our opponent for making adjustments? Or actually playing hard and being an SEC D1 athlete?

There are a lot of idiots on this board and none of them will likely post in this thread. They're clueless.

The 2nd quarter, not 3rd, was conservative. We're suppose to run the ball in the 4th with a 2 TD lead. We didn't execute in the 4th.

I didn't like the series of playcalls coming out of the on-side kick attempt. I thought with the ball in that spot on the field, you can trust Mett to try to be a bit more aggressive, especially when I believe they were in either a 1 high look, or even a 0 coverage.
Otherwise it wan't bad at all.

Double tight formation with Landry cracking down on the end is what is frustrating. Lets just yell to the other team "WE ARE RUNNING OFF TACKLE"

there were times in this game where our offensive execution was poor. when you add the fumble near auburns goalline and the fake field goal near their goalline you total up to leaving points on the table. oh well, we have not peaked yet, thank goodness, and auburn wasn't good enough to overcome our hiccups. it really was our worse offensive performance of the year; with the exception of a handful of huge plays of course.

The only thing that really bothered me was that final drive when we just ran it up the middle three times in a row with Hill and the Auburn defense knew that was all we were going to do. I know there were only three minutes left but Auburn had all of their timeouts left, our defense was tired and Auburn was showing that they could move the ball and score quickly.
That's a situation where you just need to get a first down and end the game right there instead of letting Auburn hang around another few minutes and risk injuries to our tired defense. Les Mile's teams need to learn how to finish a game with offense and not just hang on all the time with defense. That's what's been missing the last few years and what this offense has a chance to do now.

OBJ or Landry one on one with no safety help against their pathetic defense (which was stacking the line in the 4th). Why not take the easy first down/TD instead of getting the defense worn down with 3 and outs. Us running the clock a few minutes was useless when Auburn was running a play every 10-15 seconds.

OBJ or Landry
Question: Could the bubble screen, with the receiver cutting to the middle of the field instead of the sideline, be an effective play when trying to run out the clock AND get a first down in the waning minutes of a game?
This only works because Mett has a very quick release and some velocity on his throws.

It is very simple. Les is always wrong in the eyes of half the people here.
Had Les thrown the ball (actually cam but that doesn't matter) and an interception gets taken back for a score then we are only up 7 with an onside kick coming or maybe a deep kick because then AU would have still had all their time outs.
The rant would be full blown up in arms about why he was throwing the ball. And guess what? They would be right! So guess what? That means that Les WAS right.

But yet we have surpassed 400 yds in 4 straight games. Never in the history of LSU football has any team done that.
But lets not forget we were up by 21 points and it was a rough day weather wise. Auburn was already losing players and the game was never in doubt. The fumble hurt, but thats not the scheme of the offense, thats on the player. Even if we kick the field goal, yall would still find something to bitch about.

Just like last year when according to most we played auburn way to conservative at the end of the game in attempt to hold the victory...for the alabama game the same posters were saying we should of ran more time off the clock in the fourth rather than throwing the ball. This place never changes.

We were trying to shorten a game in crappy conditions that we had well in hand..

The Rant is no place for logic, reason, and facts.
Get outta here with that shite.

Your problem is that you seem to think its possible to judge a play-call as "conservative" or not before the play is run.
However, as used by most LSU fans, a "conservative" play on offense is one where the runningback gets tackled, or where the QB gets sacked (or barely makes it back to the line) or throws an incompletion.
There were a couple of times where LSU could've been more aggressive, but to go into a little more detail on the second half drives:
Drive 1 - 1 play, pass, intercepted
Drive 2 - Touchdown
Drive 3 - 61 yards, unsuccessful fake fieldgoal
Drive 4 - Touchdown
Drive 5 - Attempted deep pass to Odell Beckham on 2nd down, he got called for offensive pass interference, now 2nd and 24. You don't get cute up 21 facing 2nd and 24 on the wrong side of the field. Run, incomplete pass, punt.
Drive 6 - 6:33 left, up 21. Run, Run, Pass, Punt. LSU will try to pound the ball up 21 in the 4th with 6 minutes left.
Drive 7 - 3:15 left, up 14. Run, run, run, punt. Just trying to end it now, caused Auburn to burn all three timeouts.
Of the 7 drives -
Drives 2, 4 and 7 should be considered successful (a first down would've been nice on drive 7, but burning timeouts was the priority).
Drive 3 gained 61 yards and had passes on the second and third downs before the unsuccessful fake FG, so can't be considered "too conservative."
Drive 5 ended up in a 15 yard hole because of an attempt at a deep pass to Beckham.
Drive 1 was one play, a pass that was intercepted
Of the unsuccessful drives, the only drive that anyone should possibly consider hampered by conservative playcalling was Drive 6, and that was with a 21 point lead and six minutes left...
