Curious, but why can't he be drafted while he's 'clearing his name' down in BR?

Why not just get drafted?

The issue isn't about "getting drafted", the issue is about being paid a salary commensurate with his abilities.

If he was content just being on an NFL roster making the league minimum he wouldn't have returned to school for his senior season.

He might get paid, but he won't get FIRST ROUND paid.

The BRPD need to either clear him or charge him. It's like the super shittiest thing ever to let him just dangle around on the biggest night of his professional life.

Props to Cam for speaking individually with each team to assure them of La'el's character.

However, teams are already shaken. He will drop big time. All the mock drafts leave him out the first round now.

By who? What is his cause of action and who is the defendant(s)?

Last year, Dee Ford (the 23rd overall pick) signed a fully guaranteed $8.16 million contract, including a $4.25 million signing bonus.

You think LC will get that kind of money suing somebody?

What will happen is the DA will exonerate him, but not until like next week. And by then he'll be somebody's 5th round bullshite pick

He could sit out a year if that happened and enter the 16 draft.

love the kid but we don't really know anything. He's not a suspect at this time but there really is not alot that we know.

They are now waiting til next week to question him when he's already down there. Something tells me that he won't be a suspect at all, and I hope he sues everybody he can if that happens and he falls down draft boards.

Now the NFL can be liable for his loss

Not even close. Nothing reported or done to this point is even close to the legal requirements of liable or defamation. If he wants to sue, he needs to hope that someone labels him a suspect KNOWING that he isn't (slander). That's his only hope to sue.

He's likely innocent, but the reporting, while unpleasant for LSU fans, is not libelous, slanderous, or defamatory at this point.

I really feel bad for him, but he does have options if he's selected late. Sit out, enter the 16 draft after his name has been cleared. Pretty simple, but it does suck.

That's fine. He can want to sue whoever he wants. The problem is does he have a cause of action? He's got ZERO cause of action against the NFL unless all 32 teams and/or the league colluded to ensure that he wasn't drafted.

I don't see anything that rises to the level of slander or libel coming from the cops or the media. I doubt there is any kind of intentional tort the cops could be sued for, and proving tortious interference with a contract or business relationship can be very difficult to establish.

This is pretty much spot on.

Why couldn't they get a compensatory pick next year?

because that's not in the rules?

if it is, feel free to show me where the CBA allows that

Many 6th rd guys don't even make the squad so I highly doubt someone with Collins ceiling goes past there

it would be utterly insane if he slid past the 7th

teams waste 7th rounders for PR all the time, like when that army guy got drafted and when michael sam got drafted

while this would create negative PR, the risk-reward is way skewed to "draft" in the 7th

Why didn't he immediately fly home and give the police their interview? If he is not a suspect then wouldn't that have been the smartest thing to do?

Why is everyone saying he is the victim! La’el is the one who let this shite drag on.... Let the facts come in! Just like Ferguson riots, Baltimore riots, let the facts come in. I mean who in the fuk does La’el think he is. “Uhhh ok Police I beeess meeting wit chall whens i get back from da draft ok!”””” and then gets on a plane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He knows something or the police would not want to talk to him! Don’t be surprised if the baby turns out to be La’el’s through a DNA test! And how stupid is his fukn agent! His agent should be shot for trying to get a payday before helping him as a person
