The move is risky in potentially losing a pair of series openers since the aces for TAMU and OM are excellent but it sets up extreme advantages for LSU to win at least 2 of 3. Let's face it...2 of 3 in each series makes the SEC West and a national seed total locks.

Glenn has pitched as well as any ace the last 2 outings. If anything we simply wont put up enough runs against OM/A&M aces to win if Glenn continues his trend.

I think Mainieri might be counting wins to clinch a Top 8 seed. Winning the SEC would be nice, but Vandy has a two game lead with six to go, and they don't look to be slowing down. Basically at this point, our focus can't be on winning the SEC. This team has been there, done that. The phenomenal 40 game start for this team has almost made it a National Championship or bust. At the very least, Omaha is expected. If Mainieri can keep this team focused on the big prize, and not expend too much energy chasing the regular season title, then he will have the Tigers ready to peak in the post season.

I think Paul Mainieri is going to keep Glenn throwing game 1, hoping for a win, but knowing that LSU will have a decided pitching advantage in games 2 and 3. LSU is just a couple of wins away from locking up a top 8 seed, and that is the big goal at this point considering what Vandy has done to the East.

Nola clinches super nice scenario

Nola is throwing Game 1 of a Super. I can guarantee you that.

I think he did a fine job last week and has earned his spot.

Sorry for the unclear post guys - I wasn't talking about the days of the week, but the games of the series.

As in, we've started Nola for the first game of every series up until UF, and did exceptionally well. I was just asking if anyone else was uncomfortable with taking Nola out of the first game role.

I also think at some point the next two weekends they may want to limit Nola's pitch count a little bit.

Regionals will be Glenn/Nola/Eades with McCune needed if necessary.

Super will be Nola/Eades/Glenn

You throw your best two pitchers first in a Super so you don't have to go to a Game 3. You don't mess around with something like that.

You also have an offense that has shown it can hit just about any pitcher out there. Granted they aren't going to shell a first round pick for 12 runs like some of the guys they have hit, but they have done pretty well against supposed aces, even with plenty of scoring opportunities against Stanek.

I was going to post the same, but what was the reasoning for Nola in game 1 last year? I think weather or a scheduling quirk making it a short turnaround from the regional to the super would be the only reasons Nola doesn't start the first game this year.

Gausman wanted to pitch game 2.

Personally I think he underestimated Stony Brook. I don't remember what the forecast looked like for that Friday, but maybe he thought it would rain and didn't want to throw Gausman.

Yes. The other poster says he would rather save Eades for a Game 3.

Agreed for sec tourney and regional. Then go back to regular rotation for supers.

Assuming that Glenn will continue to pitch as well as an ace is the risk, of course. Heck, Glenn could go 6 innings or so and give up 3 runs while LSU still loses 3-2. Since Nola has been even better than that, it's a risk.

That said, I like the risk considering how strong it makes the likelihood of winning 2 out of 3 at worst.
