Coach O stated that we couldn't go into 4 wide sets because we aren't good enough at WR

Imagine if Dupre came back and Johnson and Quinn didn't transfer

quote:

Asked how far we are from seeing “four-wide sets,” Orgeron said that wide receiver depth is “not there yet” and that he doesn’t think we’ll see much four-receiver formations this year. “That’s why we need some great receivers in this recruiting class,” he said with a smile

Has to be kicking himself right now. Hasnt found a landing spot in the NFL and probably wont. Canada couldve turned him into something special.

This is coach speak. He knows he could go 4-wide. In reality, they don't trust the tackles to go without a TE/H. Don't want to risk Etling because the backup QB is a true frosh.

4-wide makes less strategic sense.

ETA: also probably messaging Terrace Marshall about early PT next year.

I'm trying to figure how we arent good enough when we have Chark, Gage, Dillon, and Davis. Davis and Chark have already found the endzone this year. Dillon is supposedly the most improved according to him. Gage is the The starter.

Davis, Sullivan and Anderson have been disappointing so far. All in their 2nd year and the coach afraid to play them much. Anderson for different reasons than the other 2, but man, someone has to step up. Lot of wasted talent if we cant find a go to guy out of those 3.

Well, he probably had someone in mind and he can't mention them by name....but I feel this was aimed at Marshall.

Agreed, we have the talent to go 4 wide right now. I think CEO is being coy about it and in a light-hearted way.
Imagine what the guy at Bama would say, 'sure we are going to go 4 wide on the 3d, 5th and 11th plays of the game. I'll go ahead and let the other team know now what plays we plan to run and when we plan to run them....geeeesh'
CEO just has a different style, GT!
