Hypothetically speaking, lets say Herman does not go to LSU and we retain Coach O. Who will be a good candidate for OC/QB coach? Do we keep Ensminger or get someone else? The only candidate that comes to my mind is Major Applewhite, a Baton Rouge native, which is currently Herman's OC/QB coach, formally held the same position at UT under Mack Brown. Do any of you know any other potential candidates to this coaching position?

What's wrong with Ensminger?

if we keep O and Ensminger wants the job, it would be incredibly hypocritical to not retain Ensminger considering he is part of the success LSU is having right now and would have earned the job as much as O.

I think you keep Ensminger until he gives you reason to doubt. LM went through a handful of OC's over the years. If Ens can slow the game down for the offense to where they keep the production up, we look foolish to cut him.

Also, CEO has connections to some other guys that I think could do well.

Some people feel he'd rather keep his position as a TE coach.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Ensminger. I honestly don't know much about him other than he has a lot of experience, which is obviously a good thing. My thing is, can he recruit and develop at the QB position. I just know Major Applewhite has done great things everywhere he has been. Ward Jr. was a WR and he was a Heisman candidate until UH's recent losses. Thanks for the feed back guys.

I've seen that posted but haven't really seen anything to actually back it up.

It's possible that long term he'd rather have a lower stress job as a position coach.

Sterling Gilbert @ UT may be available if Herman heads to Austin. Keep Ensminger here as qb coach or back to TE coach. With Gilbert here , this would be an awesome coaching staff.

And if that's the case, I feel you go and get your guy now, if there is someone out there you feel you need at the position. If not, and Steve is willing, let him retain the position for a few more seasons.

Sorry my user name didn't meet your expectations. I'll have to try harder next time.

I said it was nice. You really need to learn how to take a compliment if you're ever hoping to make it around here.

Agree - Ensminger as OC with the only possible staff change BDP

Let's pump the brakes just a bit. There's a reason Ensminger has only been an OC 3 seasons out of the last nearly 20 years (last time as an OC was in 2003!). He's done a good job over the last 3 games, but ANYTHING would have been better than the Miles/Cameron approach. Plus, I've heard from enough people that Ensminger is happy being LSU's TE coach. He gets paid extremely well for that position and it is relatively low stress. He's 58 years old now and is probably looking retire in a few years.

Ensminger has been fine as a fill-in and it was great that LSU already had a former playcaller on staff when they dropped Cameron, but let's not anoint him just yet.

Prepare for the downvotes, but I'd take Kiffin with all his BS in a heartbeat. Second choice would be Applewhite. Third choice would be Sarkhesian, forth choice would be Briles...I don't care about what's PC, I care about the W's!
