In my view, he doesn't need much improvement, just more consistency. If he does the things he is capable of doing on a consistent basis we'll have a pretty good year.

Maybe Cam made Mett ditch those cement shoes he played in last year

Yep, taking sacks was his biggest problem. He had the same number JJ had in 2009.

Cement shoes aren't the problem, locking in waiting for the play to develop was his problem. He can move around in the pocket, I've seen him do it.

His improvement needs to come in the area of consistency, he has the tools.

Why not? Lee improved dramatically under Kragthorpe. Why can't Mett undergo similar improvement with Cameron?

The roll out pass is supposed to make the defense at least have to pay attention to the possibility of the qb running for a td

So when manning rolls out, people are worried about him running it in?

hopefully this will be significantly improved with some instruction and much better play design and situational playcalling...

I don't think Lee improved dramatically due to Coach Krag at all.The playcalling that year was simplified and Lee didn't have that many high risk throws imho.

Also, I think that many people are overlooking the fact that this will be ZM8's fourth OC change during his college career. You don't think this will wear thin on a guy going into his SR year.

Right, letting the defense rush know where Zack will always be is a smart move.

It's tough to make this argument when Lee is leading the SEC in pass efficiency, among other notable stats, when he wasn't a full time starter since 2008. Something changed with him, and it wasn't just them limiting high risk passes.

Heck, even Jefferson improved, albeit negligibly, from his junior to senior year.

This is a good point. Could suffer from the Jason Campbell effect. Here's hoping Cameron's NFL experience proves to override all of these concerns, but it's a legit concern for sure.

I don't see why it has to.
He threw for 2,600 yards his first year as a starter in the SEC, I don't see any reason to be pessimistic.

You must have watched a different 2011 LSU-Alabama regular season game than the one I watched.

You must have forgotten to turn on the television for all the other games in 2011.

Despite making big plays for us in 2010 vs Florida and Tennessee, his consistency was on a higher level in 2011. Don't know if Krag had anything to do with it, but not much else changed between 2010 and 2011 as far as I know.

I don't think of this as being pessimistic at all. Too many LSU fans were expecting ZM8 to come in here and have a 25+ TD season from year one. I just think that the ceiling is very low for a QB like him. Also, i don't think one year with Coach Cam will dramatically fix the flaws we saw in the '12 season.

A 15-18 TD season w/ somewhere in the neighborhood of 2500-2800 passing yards is reasonable imo. Let's also hope that he up his completion percentage from 54%.

Link??

He's played two years, one at a CC where it appears he had an excellent season throwing for 31 td
s in 11 games. What did you see in that season at Butler that leads you to believe he was inconsistent? Or the year he was competing with Murray for starter at UGA?

With a competent OC, he can easily throw for 2,800+ yds. With better WR's he would have approached that last year.

He had a lot of drops and overthrew receivers on deep passes regularly that could have accounted for another 1,000 yards probably. He needs to be on target with the deep passes this season.
