Coach Miles spoke in Shreveport tonight at an alumni dinner and made some interesting comments. Several of his statments were the very things that have been discussed on this board. I started to ask him if he had been listening to the rantards for advice, but I didn't want to embaress him in public.

First off he stated he was very dissappointed in the limited number of wins, and that will not be acceptable going into next year.

He knows the rumblings are about JJ holding onto the ball way too long and that is something the coaches are well aware of as well. He felt JJ was so upset over the problems JL suffered and didn't want to fall into that trap that he over-compensated.

He also says play calling will be more scrutinized. Gary was trying to do too much and the plan is going to be much more simplified going forward.

When asked about the quarterback situation 2 things came to light many people were probably not aware of unless you had inside information. He went to Chris Garrett and told him he really needed him to step up his game and make himself ready, but CG told CLM he felt it just wasn't his time and needed a little more preparation. Russell Shepherd also came to coach to say he didn't want to take the time to learn the QB position, but would rather get on the field anyway he could as quickly as he could. Coach felt RS would be a full time player this year and rarely come out of the game, if ever.

I raised my hand and told him I had a WANT to ask a question. I told him I understood the need to play seniors if they had worked hard and deserved the time on the field, but with such great recruiting classed would any young kids see the field as well. He felt that Mo Claiborne starting at corner was a given, Mingo on the line would be awesome, and young players would start at safety and that gave him some concern. He thought the best oppt for a young guy was Adams on the defensive line who had been a JC transfer.

Rather than go after any SC players he prefers to make this 2011 recruiting class the best ever, and he is totally against any realignment if it upsets our rivalry games, but the final decision is really not up to him.

He has no idea what Zach Lee plans to do, but when the Dodgers asked him to come visit he said he was already in school and didn't have time to come to LA. Hum

Enjoy! Comments?

Les' way of saying "don't blame me when Lee and Jefferson fail but I refuse to play Garrett"

I just hope Shep develops a serious case of Josh Reed Hands, catching everything thrown within 18 yards of him.

Interesting. Did he give any more detail on the Chris Garret info? As in why Crowton felt this or What he felt he needed more time with? I just think Crowton has no idea what he wants in a QB honestly. JJ is good granted given enough protection but the holding the ball too long is a concern and he seems to like Lee's ability at a long ball but limits areas of the field when he throws. Yet the QB with the strongest arm he does not want to even touch.

thanks for the commentary! Did you sense it was more of CG hinting for a transfer versus not being ready/ What did that mean for Lee then? He will be the # 3 going in behind CG?

As Charlie Brown's teachers says:

BA WHA BA WHA BA WHA BA WHA BA WHA!

Same old BS, Chicken Little of optimism

Everything will be great, everything will be great. Right up till the disappointment.

It really sounded like he wanted Garrett to step up to be the number 2 QB, but CG said he wanted a little more time, he didn't really hint of a transfer situation. He did say 2 freshman MAY not qualify and it was really two guys he wanted in camp.

You kidding me with this? It was the most simple minded play calling I've ever seen. Limited formations and uncreative plays.

It would be nice if fans could believe his words with any certainty that he is being sincere, but after the '09 season where he said one thing and did the opposite on the field, I don't waste my time listening to anything he has to say.

With Miles, his actions are often incongruent with his words. I look forward to seeing what product he puts on the field in September, but I won't be hanging on his every word in the meantime.

If I had a quarterback who acted as if he didn't want to be the leader of the team, I would be signing more than one quarterback. It appears, if Lee decides to play baseball, we are on the brink of disaster again.

Great.

So Jefferson is shell shocked

Lee can't throw across the middle

And Garrett is afraid.

BTW, I'm a borderline PosiTiger

The #1 high school QB is a fool if he doesn't look at LSU.
