Clemson and Dabo
Posted by mallardhank on 9/19/17 at 5:59 am157
Same situation as LSU. Gave a position/interim coach a chance.
Dabo's first four years were not great. I have never kept up with clemsons program but I can imagine they were in full melt just like us.
We've been headed to mediocrity for years and one season under O isn't going to magically turn this around.

Can't argue that you are wrong. It's pretty much the exact same deal. Position coach getting interim and then the gig.

Only difference is that Dabo was not a failure at a previous job.

Did Dabo ever crash and burn at another ACC school before getting the Clemson gig?

Dabo was 9-5 in his first full year. You feel confident we get to 8 or 9 wins this season?

Was or was not? Dabo had never been a HC...that's the difference if that's what you meant.

You just pointed out another similarity

If management can be done with charts and graphs then every accountant would be a great manager. Dabo's situation is not at all like Ogeron's, because it's easy to see Dabo is a higher caliber person.
If I was considering candidates for CEO of GE, or President of the US, and two who had resumes that were short of the mark were like O and Dabo, I might let the Dabo type get through my filter. There is no way I would let the one like O through.
Hiring O was a colossal mistake. It was probably a program killer. I say probably because O still has a chance. I feel like O needed a great year this season to have a chance. The only way he can get that now is by winning at least all but one of the rest of the games. And that is extremely unlikely.

Difference is Clemson hadn't done shite before Dabo. They were a respected program but never considered a power.

I was not comparing the coordinators
Nor was I stating how long the coordinators might stay. I didn't dig into the Clemson coordinators or their tenure. If you are a great coordinator you will be offered an HC job sooner or later.
Our biggest problem is our level of competition in the West. Clemson doesn't have this year in year out. No matter how well we play or recruit we cannot get around the evil empire in alabama. They will be dictating to us and the rest of the SEC for years. Get used to it.

it was a comparison as far as the hiring.. but facts are facts, the vast majority of the time interim coaches being hired full time rarely work out successfully. Dabo was an anomaly
