Never said he was a patriot (I'm saying you're a patriot, though, and I've got to say, I'm quite impressed). Don't need him to be. Just need him to pull his weight and not commit crime, and he has always met that need. That's American enough for me. It's also American enough for you—you just pretend to feel the need to make a big deal about his opinions, which are insignificant.

Long as he does what he's supposed to do, it's neither here nor there if he gives the country the stinkeye when he pays the Man.

Great point. What would you rather have?
A) A guy who pulls his weight and hates it
B) A leech on welfare with 10 illegitimate kids and an American flag lapel

Got a lot of "patriots" in this thread who basically choose B and have the nerve to call others liberals. Dumb dumb dumb.

You're not even arguing the same thing. A person paying taxes and hating it has nothing to fricking do with a person that disrespects the country by a public display of not standing for the national anthem. It doesn't matter how hard he works and how much taxes he pays. That person is a piece of shite.

The person with 10 illegitimate kids is also a piece of shite.

One has nothing to do with the other though.

I'm not whining about it. Just stating my opinion that he's a piece of shite for doing it.

why is he a POS for not standing during the national anthem?

Frankly, I think it's dumb to have the national anthem before every sporting event anyway, but that's irrelevant.

There's really no sense in even trying to debate this with you. People stand, in almost every country, when the flag is presented and the anthem is played. It is a show of respect for your country and those that made sacrifices for the country. He made a decision to go against that and show his displeasure for the country. There are other ways he could have done that. Apparently you disagree. So there really isn't much point in debating it with you any further.

Then why bring it up?

It's never stupid to take time out to show respect for the country you live in and remember those that fought for your freedom. I honestly can't fathom why you would think that is dumb...ever.

I always stand during it and I will always continue to do so.

but I do not consider others who choose not to do it, as POS

I think it's perfectly fine to show respect for those who sacrifice. And what better time to do it than when I've had about 4 $10 beers in me right?

I think it's dumb that it's done at EVERY SINGLE SPORTING EVENT.

Again, there is never a BAD time to show that respect. Doesn't really matter how many beers you have or haven't had.

I disagree.

I think going through the motions of playing/singing the anthem at a minor league hockey game or something, sorta cheapens it.

I think there are better ways of honoring soldiers, vets, forefathers, etc.

That's my opinion

Then don't just go through the motions?

Actually use the time to honor the country. Doesn't really matter what everybody else is doing or your surroundings.

Of course there is but standing for the national anthem and honoring the country is the LEAST you can do.

Well, the two were teammates at LSU. But the patriots on this board think that anti-American sentiment is worse than anti-Human action. Silly.
