if miles is another charlie mac, i'll take him. no more of these shooting stars that come in, wow the school for a few years and then depart to put their name in lights and just move around for the sake of moving around. saban was a good coach/great coach, but a flake, and judging by his comments of french people in louisiana after leaving, he had no committment to lsu or the people of louisiana, but was totally committed to himself. i think alabamians will be boo-hooing in a few years when he goes off to some new vista and some new goal ! lsu is already elite ! enjoy it while it lasts. to saban's credit, he probably got tired of hearing from the malcontented clowns after producing what he did. if this hate miles business keeps up, then we run off another good coach, and see the program go into disrepair again similar to what happened when 'they helped mac pack' ! give the guy a rest and give yourselves a rest ! and ...

I hope that you are a young person becuause it may be another fifty years before we win another championshiip. I'm just glad that I lived long enough to see Saban in purple and gold. After fifty years of waiting it made more appreciative of Saban.

If you have an elite program, then you should be able to hire an elite coach to replace the elite coach who's leaving.

I remember Charlie Mac and Les Miles is no Charlie Mac. Never met or saw a classier coach.

I don't know why I didn't think about it before....but I remember after Miami won the NC in 1983 and Howard Schnellenberger left for the USFL and in 1984 UM hired some unknown coach from (coincidentally) Oklahoma State and we all asked "Who?". He was hardly an ELITE coach. You might want to check how those UM teams did in those years he was there ('84-'88) and the what those players that he recruited acheived under his predecessor from '89 through '91. As dominating a program as college football has seen for a 10-years stretch since most of us have been alive.

Michigan, the winningest program in college football history made out OK taking an unkown assistant named Schembechler from Miami of Ohio in 1969....and Nebraska made out even better when they replaced the legendary Bob Devaney with some offensive coordinator named Tom Osborne in 1972.

I agree with this statement. I remember those down years. We could go there again.

How do you think Florida fans are feeling this morning, after losing to Alabama (while they had Mr. SuperTebow).

Must be coaching right? Are the running Meyer out of town. No!

Miles is a great guy. Good coach. He needs to learn how to communicate better, because I believe that he's smarter than he sounds. He's got to be! (hope)

Dumbest argument given by LSU fans. Bo Rein was an up and coming coach and may or may not have done great things for LSU. It's not LSU's fault that he died in the plane accident. After losing a coach in such tragic circumstances, there was not time to conduct another search so LSU was forced to hire Jerry Stovall.

So the argument that "fans wanted Cholly Mac run off, and the program went to crap after that" is a dumb argument. Even still, in the 8 years following that accident, LSU went to the Orange Bowl, 2 Sugar Bowls, had a top 5 finish in another year, and won 2 SEC Titles. I wouldn't call that bad.

+1..but
don't you know that to these KNOW IT ALL, youngsters "HISTORY" of LSU football started 10 years ago...
they do not take the time to read what actually happened, nor to look at outside factors/influences.

Miles may be a great guy...that does not translate into a GOOD coach. He is neither a good manager of "coaches" or "talent". IMO, he is too concerned with being liked and being a NICE GUY.

With this type of MANAGEMENT
If the people under you are hard working and good at what they do, they will make you look like you are very good....if the people under you are not, THEY WILL TAKE YOU DOWN WITH THEM.

If you have an elite program, there should be no fear.

why is it so hard to understand that LSU is nothing more than AN EMPLOYER and a coach is AN EMPLOYEE...
all of the actions, moves, promotions, demotions, etc that happen in a company are to be expected and part of the process.

would you not take a BETTER job, or one that suited YOU best....or maybe just one that would be in a better location....
whatever the reason, it is an individual reason.
..they are entitled to it

glad i don't work for the 'experts' who fire you when you're doing well. if you want saban back, go beg him; he's just down the road in tuscaloosa! yeah, i suppose we'll take the titles and the fame, and his insults of the locals. he probably would have left anyway, even if the 'fans' hadn't complained. this site is pathetic but entertaining ! may bo rein rest in peace, but don't give him credit for what he did not have an opportunity to produce !

Mac was indeed a classy guy. He was a hell of a lot more faithful to his assistants than they were to him. His assistants took him down. At the end, the BOS offered him an extension if certain assistants were fired, and he refused it.
