Major test early in the year against a highly ranked team (I think in '03 we were #11 and Georgia was #7).

Both home games.

That was a 2:45 kickoff. This one is 2:30.

That game was Sept. 20. This one is Sept. 19

A win in that one set the tone for a great year. A win here could do much the same.

I usually don't like major games like these being so early in the year. (way back when, the LSU/TAMU game that was the first game of the year would kind of torpedo the season for the team that lost). But if LSU takes care of business in that game I think the sky will be the limit.

Every time someone mentions the 2003 UGA game I smile on the inside. Best game I have ever been to. It was the moment LSU arrived

I was honestly thinking about this comparison the other day.
Sept matchup
LSU ranked in the low teens
Vs a top 5 team
2:30 CBS,Gonna be hot as hades
A win would vault LSU into the top 10 and would be considered contenders

I've about talked myself into driving down and sweating it out all day. Death Valley could be magical that day!!

Let's just hope all goes well against MS State. I feel that game will set the tone for the season.

If DV is anywhere close to that game..

How about we make it even louder?

Could be very similar if we take care of business in Starkville and first Auburn game since 2010 when it felt like a truly "big" game against Auburn.

That game will set up the entire rest of the season. It better be as loud as that '03 Georgia game.

Georgia fans at the time were carrying the we outplayed LSU banner touting their yardage. Saw them again in Atlanta, I remember in like the first half we had 196 yards and they had like -8. Suck it, Helen Hunt.

Horrible comparison imo. '03 and '97 UF game are the two games that come to mind that put LSU on the map. As far as I know, LSU doesn't need a "We have arrived" game anymore.

Well, that's interesting. Didn't LSU win an SEC championship in 2001 in football and was a miracle on Markham away from making it back to back division championships?

I think people like to romanticize the Georgia game, and that's fine, but LSU had arrived two years before when they ended UT's Rose Bowl aspirations (saving them from an embarrassing arse-kicking from the U).

I as well. My back was against the west upper wall and I enjoyed every minute of it. A buddy of mine accually made the cover of that SI magazine that came out that year. You can definately tell the crowd was fired up from that picture.

UGA/LSU game was the 1st time College Gameday had decided to visit LSU. I certainly believe that it was the 1st time LSU was the major storyline in CFB.

Yes, LSU had won the SEC back in '01 and beat Illinois in the Sugar bowl. But I think some folks at the time saw that as a flash in the pan. From a national perspective, LSU was taken seriously after the UGA game.

So a game LSU lost put them on the map?

They came to the Bama game in '96. Someone threw a golf ball at Corso after he picked Bama.

ETA: also came to Florida '97

Yeah as long as we take care of business in Starkvegas. If we start off 3-0 I think we carry that momentum to 8-0 before November
