I saw this rumor recently, and it looks intriguing:

quote:

The Eagles would receive the No. 2 overall pick from the Titans, which they would then use to draft Mariota.
The Chargers would receive Sam Bradford, the Eagles’ first-round pick and the Titans’ second-round pick.
The Titans would receive Philip Rivers and the Eagles’ third-round pick.

LINK

Of course, if this happens, Chip is tying his job to Mariota.

he's out of a job regardless of who's starting if the Titans go anywhere near 2-14 again.

Not true, drafting a 1st Rd QB would probably buy him another season or two.

Also, I think Mariota can play in many different systems in the NFL. He's also a better discussion maker than Mettenberger [If you look at CFB Film]

That's why several franchises never go anywhere. Keep Mett and build pieces around him. You haven't even seen him for a year yet. Teams are so impatient nowadays. There are several big targets out there at WR. They also need another RB that they can get later in the draft.

We'd have to get a better OL, but I'd definitely take Mett to sit behind Big Ben for a few years.

He played 4 years in a first-read spread offense. I would say we don't know how good his decision making really is because he didn't have to make a lot of decisions relatively speaking.

You do realize the whole "let them sit for a few years" is pretty much a thing of the past. You either have it or you don't. Honestly, the last QB to sit behind an All-Pro and be successful was Aaron Rodgers. This isn't something that just happens with a snap of a finger.

That's not to say that Mett couldn't be a successful QB2 in the NFL.

Russell Wilson is the closest thing to a scrambling quarterback to ever win a super bowl. That same Sehawks defense lost to a qb with no mobility the following year.

I'd say OU's offense was different in his Senior year. But, I'm not going to split hairs over this.

Meh I don't think Brady really did anything that special. Carrol gifted them the game at the end.

Wilson IMO is probably the best example of a mobile QB though. But he's good because he's very smart about how he runs.

You are mistaking the difference between scrambling QBs & a QB with mobility.

Russell Wilson has excellent pocket presence and has the ability to get outside of the pocket and not get destroyed by defenders. I think Mariota has a similar attribute to his game.

Titans love metts potential

The only way he's not the starter this year is if they get Phillip Rivers.

Has JBeam come in here with his weird Mett hate yet?

Yep

We've seen what an aggressive defense can do to a quarterback who has zero mobility [Manning vs. Seahawks].

Tom Brady disagrees against the same team

It's not weird. Some of you have this blind praise for Mettenberger and act like the thought of Tennessee drafting another QB is blasphemy.

Came back from 10 down on one of the best defenses of all time in crunch time of the Super Bowl with Gronk and a bunch of 6 foot and under WRs and zero running game

Yeah nothing special

A guy like Mett is starter ready, and even if he doesn't replace Ben, in a few years, he'd be great trade bait (sorry Mett).

a new QB isn't saving his job. honestly, it's not even his fault, but a QB is not going to make the Titans better long term. Their best option is to trade their pick and get a lot of pieces for it

No, but you go out of your way to tell everyone how terrible you think Mett is
