Pap is going to get drafted. How high? Probably not very but a team will draft him and see if they can sign him.

I agree. And he can go one of two ways with it.

Sign as a junior and take what he can get, knowing that if a catcher is brought in next season that can perform his job will be in serious jeopardy. Will not help his stock much if he sits on the bench most of the year.

Come back his senior year and work big time on his hitting. If he sures up his defense and turns his hitting around, Kramer Robertson style, he ups his draft stock a lot..but possibly not the pay check.

I honestly don't think he will be back next year.

Do we even know if Romero is healthy enough to catch a 9 inning game?

Yes, he is. But he would be playing with pain and he's lost a little velocity on his throws.

You were agreeing with me last week when I said Pap should sit, but not because of his bat...because of his defense.

Its pretty clear Pap is the best option defensively, maybe not by a ton...but he's the best option.

Coomes is the best option offensively...but not by a mile.

So, pick and choose what we have. I'll take the defense. Coomes isn't hitting .400 while Pap is hitting .100.

Romero shouldn't even be in the catching discussion. He is a liability behind the plate.

So are we now saying that Gibbs sucked as a catcher too?

I think he is implying that Gibbs sucks as a coach not a player.

If you look at we have had the past couple of years Gibbs was towards the bottom as far as defensive catchers. Him and Sciv were the two best hitting catchers under CPM. None of that means anything when it comes to teaching guys how to do either. How good of a player you were has zero bearing on whether you can coach or not. Two different things.

He did a good job catching and a great job batting last year. The only thing awkward about his defense was hit little mental thing about throwing the ball back to the pitcher. Hahaha!

Sciv made the All SEC defensive team his senior year if I'm remembering correctly.

Gibbs was towards the bottom as a defensive catcher, but was one of the top hitting catcher in the nation.

It's funny how nobody realizes how important a catcher really is to a team until you have a bad one.

Sciv was the best all around catcher LSU has had under CPM he was great at fielding and hitting.

Yeah I know, but I've seen the ball bounce right out of Paps glove on a pitch out too just a few games ago. I'd just keep rotating until one pulls away.
