Isn't a myth, it is cold hard reality. I think overall Chavis is a very good D coordinator. I'm not passing judgement on him in terms of value. But if you deny that 3rd and Chavis isn't real you are an idiot. I've seen more back breaking third and long conversions the past two seasons than I can deal with.

It's not like LSU fans made that up. We got it from Tennessee fans (who had seen a lot more of it than we have).

its his one issue but he is one of the best D coordinators in the country. We just have a young not to talented defense, which will improve alot next season.

Ok then, what was the excuse last year on defense? Still gave up last minute game winning drives and big yardage games, and lost 3 more! Its always next year, next year, next year!!!!

Don't apologize he's extremely overrated. He's had unbelievable once a generation talent over the years. I'm not impressed with his scheme at all. People need to learn how to call a spade a spade.

not surprisingly, our 3rd down D has really suffered when we can;t get to the passer. in Chavis' tenure, the only other time we were this bad at getting sacks was 09, his first yr (aka the yr Pep started at DE and got 0 sacks).

3rd down conversion percentage was around 37%. generally speaking it's been around the mid 30s under Chavis, which has put us in the 15-20 range nationally.

in 2013, we're at 40% in allowing 3rd down conversions, which is 70th in the nation.

in 09, we had Peterson, Mo, B Taylor and Chad Jones starting as DBs, so that kinda bailed out the bad pass rush. don't have that this yr.

so like I said in another thread, we're not getting consistent pressure, and the DBs can't cover. bad combo.

And there lies the problem. He is not one of the best, far from it. Having the defense loaded with nfl quality talent makes him look better, and people tend to overlook all his negatives cause we win. Now that we have a bad defense he cant improve it one bit, cause hes not that good. There is a reason Tennessee was glad to see him go.
