I don't understand why they have it for football but not for basketball? Is it just basketball, or is it like that for all the other sports?

Divisions serve no purpose in basketball because the conference tournament involves more than two teams.

It was viewed as a detriment to the conference in NCAA seeding when one division was really good and one division was weak (typically the east when KY, FL GA were really good). No division awards the best teams and helps them come tourney seeding time.

On another subject, have you seen how F'ed up this year's SEC Tourney will be since Mizzou is on probation and will not participate?

Only one game the first night and the #11 seed gets a bye from playing. Basically, Mizzou goes in as the #14 seed and forfeits first game.

It's what they need to do in football. With a 4 team CFB playoff now the divisions and conference championship games are antiquated and not needed.
