Cam Cameron and the running game
Posted by trooploop on 9/20/15 at 9:07 am60
I know he can become the target because of passing struggles but I think something that often goes unnoticed because so many people fall in love with passing offenses is how great Cam Cameron has historically been in the run game. Everyone talks about his QB development but his Indiana teams were always among the national leaders in rushing, Tomlinson was Tomlinson but he had Michael Turner and Spoles in SD too, he had Rice in Baltimore, Ronnie Brown was leading the entire NFL in yards from scrimmage after seven games when Cam was with the Dolphins, and then Jeremy Hill and now Fourette and crew.
Yes, he's been blessed with some great backs but he sure as heck hasn't let them go to waste and in many ways he's checked his own ego to run the rock, which a lot of OCs with good backs refuse to do.
It's nice to know that going in to every game that more than likely LSU is going to be able to run the ball and that there is an identity. So many teams, even those with great backs, don't have. Too many OCs want to prove themselves as geniuses.
He's also doing a nice job with Harris. No, it's not as fast as many of us want but he is being taught the position very well and it's going to pay dividends.

Those are good points. We pass enough to set up the run where we are loaded with talent. It is smart in many ways. It grinds down opposing defenses and we dominate time of possession. You usually win football if you achieve those things.
This team is special. This is going to be a great season.
