So, I watched the BYU/Portland St game live and this morning have been able to rewatch some of the highlights and I see a HUGE glaring problem with the BYU Defense. Its not that their DLine can barely get a push against a FCS Offensive Line, or all the arm tackling, Its not even that they seem to love running a Dime defense with multiple backs in the backfield. Its the pursuit to the ball...You only see 1-2 guys in on a tackle and the rest of the team is just kind of jogging to the play. Run To The Football! Coaches yell this 100 times at practice. There should be 11 hats at the tackle. This is going to be big time problem when Guice puts a DB on his arse in open space and everyone else is just trotting around waiting for the next play.

Side Note: If they run a Dime Package with any of our RB's in the backfield, They're gonna have a bad time...(Their Dimeback is 5'10 185lbs)

Defense vs Portland St

Just so this doesn't look 100% bias, #35 and #41 are pretty good tacklers

Are we playing defense vs defense or Did I miss Aranda taking over offensive playcalling?

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but as far as I can see, Aranda will not need this info

So your saying it won't be very hard to find Waldo?

BTW BYU is NOT going to be playing dime against LSU, this would be a disaster. It's the reason LSU w/ Canada calling plays will be a complete match up nightmare for BYU. They will need to play the heaviest defense they can put out there, but at the same time, will need to have speed out there as well. It's going to be a real problem for BYU and most teams we play this year.

The LSU defense is built well for this type of offense because we have power and speed but even with that and Aranda, have had trouble defending it w/ an entire offseason to prepare for it at the same time. BYU will have a week. Unless they have been working on it all offseason. Even if they have worked on it, they have no clue as to what we will do. They will need to adjust the entire game. As they adjust so will Canada. This game is going to be a problem for BYU. I can't wait to see an offensive scheme which dictates to the defense, it will be refreshing to watch, and we should move the ball well.

I just want to see us play at a pace to try and attempt 75-80 plays in the game. The years of limited possessions, slow pace, <20 pass attempts, and ~50 plays per game were brutal.

At first I thought I saw the ball bobble and thought he was just being a jackass and trying to knock the ball out after the tackle...but the ball is in the other arm...He was legit just fckn punching him for no reason....

I saw alot of blitzes for a team playing Pt. State. Their defense didn't impress me at all. They struggled with an FCS opponent that was 3-8 last year and were favored by 35 pts. This game is over by halftime IMO. I know teams are supposed to make the biggest jump from game 1-2 but some things you just can't fix like team speed and being psychical which BYU has neither. Their big MLB being out certainly hurts them.

IMO Canada will feel out the game. If he feels that he needs to run 70+ plays then he will, but if he feels he can run 60+ and win easily then he'll do that too. I honestly think we will and can average over 45 points a game for the first 5 games. I'm just ready for some football.

No doubt, and maybe to contradict my original post they just werent hyped for this game or looking ahead. That could have caused them to not be swarming the ball because there was no emotion to their defense. But like you say, you wont learn speed and strength in a week...
