Wasn't the indoor football facility built during Curley's tenure?

Yes, that's correct. Opened around '92 or '93.

He followed Joe Dean, that by itself ensures history will be kind to him.

Arnsparger never stayed anywhere long term. 10 jobs averaging about 3 years per job. He wasn't ever gonna be a "long term" LSU HC regardless of what we did for him.

You do realize that, starting in 1964, he was with Don Shula for 16 of the next 18 years, right ?? He only left the Colts because he and most of the staff went with Shula. He had the one short stint in the middle as Giants HC .. There is certainly a story inside of your math, there ..

ETA: He spent basically half of his 35 year coaching career with Shula .. Every coach hops jobs in the beginning. In the 1950s and 1960s, you didn't get head jobs in your late 30s and 40s like you do now .. Arnsparger wasn't a job hopper ..

They built the indoor practice facility. Some big programs still don't have one. I'd say that was def a big deal.

This is also why I don't give saban huge credit. Great coach, but people act like he's the only reason we started pumping money into the program. I just like to point out even hallman knew you had to put money in. He was just a terrible coach.

Also: Bob was a CPA and the reason the actual athletic dept financial condition became known was he publicly audited the dept and published his findings. That info was used against him when the push to get rid of him gained steam

He wanted to revamp the season ticket program, he wanted to use a version of PSLs, he wanted to gut the dorms and renovate the stadium and he wanted to build suites that would have paid for all of it. It was too much too soon from the wrong messenger and he was forced out.

Ironically a lot of his ideas were used later by Skip and the TAF

Dale Brown brokered the Joe Dean AD deal because he wanted a basketball friendly AD at a "football school"

Also aging less than gracefully was Broussard Hall, LSU's athletic dormitory which had been built in the late 1950's. Many of its restrooms leaked, thanks to the antiquated plumbing system, and the decor had deteriorated to the point that it was best described as early American trash. In short, Broussard Hall was an absolute embarrassment.

When recruits were brought onto campus, every effort was made to cut a wide path around the athletic dormitory. Representatives of other schools readily admitted to me that Broussard Hall was one of their most effective recruiting tools. Mere mention of its dilapidated condition was often enough to deter a prospective LSU signee faced with living there for the next four or five years.

Brodhead, Sacked, p. 126

I think of this every time I pass Broussard. It was an eyesore and recruiting liability even 35 years ago.

Haven't the football players been housed in West Campus Apartments the last few years? They are being moved to The Standard, which is off-campus housing, but apparently supposed to be some pretty nice digs.

I don't know when the wrecking ball will swing, but Broussard, along with Kirby Smith, is slated for demolition.

It is fairly commonly known that when Brodhead left, the athletic department was hemorrhaging money.

This is totally inaccurate. Brodhead took a $2 million annual deficit and turned it into a $3 million profit in just three years after completely streamlining the athletic department's finances.

What you may be talking about is that Brodhead left LSU at a point in the year before all of the football revenue was in. Basically, LSU would run a deficit throughout the year and then would make up all of the difference once the football season's cash began to roll in. So, yes, technically LSU was in the red for the year when he left.
