You haven't followed MLB much have you?
Eta: with the contracts for the big boys and all it's hard to get a young guy like AR in there

Ranaudo is like two years in the system...as a pitcher, unless you're Strasberg-like, you don't crack the starting rotation until a few years in

He hasn't thrown in a live game yet.
He pulled his groin.

As a reliever. It's much much different as a starter.

Was he a starter i thought he was coming out of the pen?

High-A is the highest he's reached so far. read a few scouts' take on him at Baseball Prospectus (sorry, they're all premium articles, so links do you no good), and they don't seem too high on him. he's now being projected as a #5 starter/middle reliever. he's started only 26 minor league games, so that could change quickly.

Ranaudo was a very good college pitcher, but the guys in the big league are unreal. He threw 90-92 when guys with his size in the MLB are consistently throwing 94-97. He needed to develop his change and get a little more command on his curveball. Not to mention while his fastball had a little bit of downward bite to it he lacked the "wicked" movement that would be required for a guy throwing 90-92 to get big league hitters out.

Ranaudo was being clocked from 95-97 during the spring from what I read, but he's yet to start a game this year because of some sort of non-arm injury. Like others have said as well, he hasn't progressed like the Red Sox have hoped. This year will be pivotal for him.

Really? That's great for him. I understand he hit 96 a couple of times at LSU, but his velocity was a little overrated as he stayed around 90 give or take a couple. His imposing size and delivery just made it seem a lot faster to hitters. I hope he can develop and make it to the bigs. Great team player and he seems to be a good guy as well.

yeah, i think the sox saw his size and thought they'd be able to add a couple MPH to his fastball.if what the above poster said is true, they might turn out right. however, i've also read that he tips his curve ball so obviously that he might as well tell the batter it's coming. strange that the sox haven't straightened that out in two years.

Sometimes going to a team with a big payroll like the sox is not such a good thing because they put less emphasis on player development when they can just go out and buy proven free agents. Other teams emphasize developing prospects because they have to in order to be competitive.

I haven't read what you are talking about, but I know the Soxs are still high on him. I would think that is all he cares about.

a valid point. they're not the rays by any means, but they seem to put enough effort into scouting and developing talent that you'd think they'd make sure a top pick wasn't tipping pitches so blatantly.

anyone remember how bad he sucked his junior year? 7.32 era in college isn't going to have you jumping to the Majors in under 3 years.
