I love total BS analysis from idiots
So his foot was on the ground when he caught it while fully extending his body to catch the ball running full speed. That must mean he could've stayed on his feet and only dove for the "theatrics"....
Yea okay buddy, I guess you've never played baseball
Take it from a former professional outfielder,....he's right. Thank ESPN and their Top 10 list for all these diving catches. Obviously not all,....but a lot of these guys are "short-legging" it.....basically timing it so they have to dive. Hell, some of them dive AFTER they make the catch. I know I sound like an old fart but gone are the days of the "shoestring catch". That won't get you on ESPN.

Same concept. You cover more ground staying on your feet. Especially when you meet the trajectory of the ball that high.
Diving sideways is rarely an efficient move, unless the ball is extremely low to the ground and you need to intercept that angle

I like how people are still-framing the catch and pretending that Stevenson was ho-hum jogging at the ball and then dove to make it interesting. Go back and watch the play real time, if he doesn't lunge forward into the dive, his glove won't get there in time. This guy was full speed covering and enormous amount of ground to get there. It was a heck of a play and it's typical of LSU fans to still-frame it and insinuate that he's embellishing his effort so he gets on sports center. I love LSU fans, but some of you are just retarded about your criticisms.

Hey, it was a great catch but I think that kid has a little affinity for drama. I'd like your theory as to why he also fell to ground after throwing the ball back to the infield. That told me more about him than the catch.

I'm not down playing the catch at all. He might be the only player in CBB that touches that ball.
The dive was theatrics. Looked cool but ultimately wasn't needed

The best catch in this thread was Landry against UCI. Dealing with the wall as a CF is harder than the corner OF positions, especially if you play shallow because you are usually moving pretty fast. Going to your glove side is even more difficult because you can't protect yourself from the wall impact with your throwing hand. Landry's catch against Mississippi State was textbook short-legging. You can see it the last stride or two. He catches the ball above his head for crying out loud. The announcer who says that was "full extension" is absolutely clueless.

Not putting down any of LSU baseball players other great plays, they are some really great ones but I watched Stevensons catch 100 times and still can't believe the speed, the dive, the catch and the where with all and arm strength to still throw the guy out, its the totality of it all, that is what's unbelievable to me, it will have me watching it again and again!

And what a throw! If I tried to throw a ball like that, it would have gone backwards over the outfield wall.

Holy crap I actually laughed out loud-- Me too!
Actually, I laughed the first time when he fell over after the throw, only because it looked like he threw it so wildly, only to get the DP. He fricking rocks CF.

The finest catch I ever saw in any baseball game was made by Foster last year. That includes Willie Mays, Clemente, and Swaboda. I have never seen a player elevate, dive, and explode to the ball as Foster did last season. I was surprised when the catch did not make more of the national sports news. It was that good to me.

I know the game was not as important as some but Mark Laird's catch against Kentucky was pretty amazing.

Foster's catch, and i mean this, is the best defensive play in LSU Baseball history.
Ray Wright might have something to say about that.

quote: No. He was already turning to throw before he even hit the ground Sure. But how is that level of awareness "unbelievable". Everyone believed it.
Have you ever heard of hyperbole? It was an amazing catch. Do we really have to explain the follow on action after the catch to be amazing? Unbelelievable athletic play with excellent awareness.
How about Bregs play in the hole between first and second? Was it run of the mill?
Please enjoy the moment and these unbelievable plays. They will be added to the lore that is LSU

Your post just told me a lot about you too. You're a negative human being!!!!
Andrew Stephenson doesn't have a strong arm and had to put his all in the throw. He was trying to save a run and a double and in turn saved a run and notched a double play.

Ray Wright vs. Stanford. LSU has 5 NCs all time without it.
This. Situation makes it that much more important.
Stevenson had to dive to make the play. It was an amazing play and top 5 all time.

It's said nobody brought up Jared Mitchell's catch against UC Irvine in left field warning track
