But "I don't think anyone is better than me" is cocky,

It's really an unfair question to the kid. If he answers like he did, he's cocky.

If he said he wasn't, the same posters would take that quote and say something like, "this proves that he is too passive and doesn't have it in him to take over. Could you imagine Michael Jordon or Kobe Bryant saying they weren't the best?!"

I agree. Ben has been everything he was billed up to be and MORE. We are watching one of the greatest freshman in the history of college basketball.

He's been great, but he hasn't lived up to the hype honestly. He's a passive player that refuses to take over games and most of the time take the big shot. I am not talking about taking a bad shot with a wide-open teammate like Kobe does, but when he's open and should drive to the lane and be aggressive he chickens out.

Kid has a ton of potential and has a multi-faceted game, but unlike other great players in college basketball, you don't fear him in the clutch and that is what makes the best player on top of putting up stats. OU kid is better by a good bit at this point in that department.

To be fair, ben isnt a volume scorer. And Chris' A/TO ratio is essentially 1:1.

Show me the last time a freshman had anything remotely close to bens full stat line.

Chris had more offensive responsibility on that team. He was the entire control of the offense and was significantly more aggressive than Simmons.

Simmons is a great player, but is not the leader this team needs yet. Jackson was a much stronger leader and an alpha male when it came to the basketball court. You can't say the same about Simmons.

His PER is 1st in the SEC and his full stat line is UNREAL.

Yet his team already has 9 losses including numerous bad ones.

you really want to compare that talent on UK to this team?

That talent on UK is also why Davis' numbers weren't higher than they were.

The fact that Ben plays on a mediocre team that can't even beat some bad teams will help him get more stats.

Davis in his freshmen year:
32 mpg
8.4 shots per game
62.3% FG
5.1 free throw attempts per game
Was a significantly better defender (6.1 blocks/steals)
Assist:TO = 1.3

Simmons:
34.5 mpg
12 shots per game
57.1% FG
8.2 Freethrows per game
Not near the defender (2.8 blocks/steals)
Assist:TO = 1.7

SO in reality, Simmons is taking:
~50% more shots
~75% more free throws

So in other words, Davis is punished for actually having teammates and coaches worth a damn.

Give me CJ, Carmelo, or Durant. They just made everyone around them better. Something is missing from Simmons. It might come sometime soon hopefully, that killer instinct.

Here's what bothers me about Ben, summed up in a few words:
quote:

Asked what it would mean to miss the Big Dance, Simmons said, "It would be annoying

If the team he leads, LSU, doesn't make the NCAA tournament, he'd be ... annoyed.

I get that it was taken out of context, but that does seem to be the first thing he says. He might have universe of talent, but he just doesn't seem to have that fire and drive to excel. He just looks like he's coasting.

killer instinct.

He is a great talent but absolutely doesnt have the killer instinct. Jordan and Kobe would make sure they had the ball in their hands with the game on the line...they were going to take that critical last shot...no one else. Ben needs to evolve into this type of persona...sooner rather than later for LSU's sake.
