Bill is very, very well known in basketball circles. He may be a douche but you can't argue the guy is a basketball authority.
That said, Benny will be more famous about a year from now.

i think the OP means look how famous ben simmons is for not even putting on a college uni yet. i think it;s that over him not knowing the fame level of bill simmons, but on this board who knows?

Bill Simmons wrote an article almost two years ago about the future stars of the NBA and he mention how much in love he was with his high school "nephew" Ben Simmons.
His article was about how few actual bona-fide superstars were in the NBA. LeBron and Durant were the only ones he listed (he may would add Curry now.) He said Anthony Davis was on the fringe and Joel Embid, Andrew Wiggins, and Ben Simmons all had potential to be superstars.
