Battle, Key, Lacouture, D. Alexander

For being considered the "leaders" of this team all of their play has been pretty underwhelming. Players with the experience they have should be leading by example .. but they aren't.
Noticed Eric Monroe was getting a lot of time later in the game, which is good imo .. Battle's been missing tackles left and right and quite frankly is average at best in coverage.
Key clearly doesn't want to be out there, it's easy to notice his lack of intensity this year compared to last year. Maybe the surgery is lingering with him idk, but it looks like he's just going through the motions until he can go pro and get paid. Most disappointing player on the team this season by a mile.
Lacouture is like the Etling of the DL. Hard to question his effort, but has clear limitations athletically and is often rendered a non-factor against OLs with a pulse (sometimes even inferior OLs). He just doesn't bring much to the table, besides simply having a body out there to take up space and (hopefully) plug some running lanes.
D. Alexander is not an LSU quality LBer. Never really makes a play and is always reacting instead of attacking, can't shed blocks, misses a bunch of tackles that he should've made. Unless the ball carrier is Derrick Henry (or someone of that size) then they should be going to the ground if one of our starting LBers gets both hands on them. Hell I've noticed him have the runner wrapped up and they just shed Alexander off like a 170 lb freshman CB. He seems weak and he doesn't have the explosiveness to make up for his lack of strength.
I was tempted to include Guice in this post. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he's been injured and has still shown to give at least some effort.
Very, very disappointing to see your upperclassman "leaders" become liabilities on the field.

I think it's pretty easy to see why D Alexander had to wait until his senior year to see the field. I don't think he has the mental approach needed to be a successful player at this level. Time to put the freshman LBers out there

People who think he isn't playing well don't know much about DLine play.
No he's not gonna be an all American or first round draft pick, but he has been the most productive and consistent d lineman this year.

Your insane, Lacouture may be our most consistent lineman so far this year (besides lawrence) also yes Arden has not been the same so far. But his effort was there this past Saturday! Disrupted Franks plenty of times

I was down on Lacature earlier in the year. I think he is playing ok, I believe we are forgetting he isn't playing as a nose

He's 2nd on the team in tackles

Of those 4, Lacouutre is playing the best. He at least gives 100% on every play and is wearing #18 for a reason.

In Arandas system, that's what he is supposed to do. Take on tackles so that the LBs can make plays. He's not going to put up stats a 4-3 DT.

Just read in Dandy Don that Lacoutre played every defensive play, never came off the field. How can anybody criticize him. The kid is all heart and is a stud!!!

I'm it's because the other teams often choose to run right at him and since he doesn't have to pass rush in this situation (which is his greatest weakness) he's bound to get tackles ... by dragging the RB down as they fall forward for a few extra yards
Like I said, it's hard to question the effort he gives every play and is definitely less of a liability than the other players listed

I had my hopes that Aranda would coach him up similar to Duke Riley, but this clearly just isn't the same situation

Yet he is 2nd on the team in sacks and 2nd in tackles for loss.
Projected out he will have 76 tackles and 7.0 sacks for the season. Not bad for a 3-4 DE whose main job is to eat up blockers so the LBs can flow to the ball.
