The facts that you laid out have nothing to do with your conclusion.

That report is from the 2015-2016 sports season. LSU basketball sold the most season tickets they've sold in a long long time because of Ben Simmons. LSU basketball had some huge crowds last season.

Start this thread when the 2016-2017 report comes out after this last basketball season with no crowds and LSU baseball is in the top 5 most of the season and draws huge crowds every weekend.

Yes basketball is #2 everywhere in the country. But you thought the numbers were from this current season. Really an ignorant thread you started.

Why the hell do people get heated comparing one LSU sport to another? I hope LSU water polo has a solid season.

I'm not happy, as most arent, about basketball. However, I'm sure most wish LSU was having a good basketball season.

I dont get the pissing match between different sports at the same school.

Because some of our fans have serious emotional problems, others are flat out racist. A lot of em would rather see basketball be done away with just so they could say baseball is our number 2 money maker. I feel the way you do I want all of our athletics to do well and I love LSU baseball. That doesn't mean I'm gonna piss and moan just because basketball makes more money. Baseball just doesn't have the national appeal and the tv contracts and advertising for hoops is what pushes it way past baseball. I just find it funny that some ppl dig their heels in and insist baseball makes more just because they prefer that sport lol.

"According to the report, LSU men's basketball made $2.3 million and baseball made $1.5 million. All other sports lost money." So all of you baseball fans who think your sport is number two. If you go by the All American Dollar then it isn't. Basketball money comes from TV money more than home attendance. This is why you can put out as mediocre a product as basketball was this year, have no one attend the games and still make a nice chunk of change. The NCAA Basketball Tournament makes tons more money than the College World Series. It's just a fact!

Baseball is a much more popular sport at lsu than basketball. Sorry if thays upsetting to you.

Basketball leaves more money on the table than baseball makes.
Hoops should be way ahead, but it's not.

Definitely. But it also shows the potential of basketball. We desperately need to invest in a quality coach.

I can't believe the decision makers haven't significantly raised baseball ticket prices. It's an untapped gold mine and there is no doubt fans would still fill the stadium up

The racist tag is thrown around more now. Their was much more actually racism going on in the not too distant past. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist in the world, but the politics of our current age have contributed. I'm a football fan first...period because it is my favorite sport. I personally like baseball slightly more than basketball, but not to much on the collegiate level.

I will pull for LSU in every sport, but my preference is for the sports I personally enjoy more. This is regardless of the ethnic percentages of the teams.

For example, I pull for the LSU golf and gymnastics teams, but I would very much prefer the basketball team to succeed.

I'm an older white guy, but I have no interest in Nascar and just a bit more in the NHL.

That is simply because of the SEC TV Revenue via SEC contracts which baseball doesn't have benefit of at the SEC level. It isn't because of the popularity of the LSU basketball team or because of self generated funds. That's for certain.

Baseball is clearly the second sport at LSU. People are shunning basketball, until LSU puts out at least a competitive product

If basketball consistently made the NCAA tournament, it would probably be the #2 sport at LSU, even without the TV money disparity between basketball and baseball.

Let's see how many LSU fans can name the starting lineup in basketball without Google.

It is amazing how many of you don't even read what you are replying to. I only compared the two sports based on money! Nothing else! I am sure this season that there will be more people attending baseball games than basketball games. I don't doubt there are more baseball fans than basketball fans on campus at this time.

But college sports has become a very expensive business. More people watch SEC basketball games on TV than SEC baseball games in person. TV networks pay more to televise and stream basketball than baseball. Why? Becasue more people watch so they can make more money on advertising. And it is LSU's share of this TV money that makes up for the lack of attendance.

By the way that TV revenue sharing applies the same way to all sports including baseball and football. There is just less of it for baseball than basketball. So just looking at the two sports from a business standpoint. As someone pointed out, if we made it to the tournament where tv viewing numbers really jump then the revenue would have been much higher.

I replied sighting the corporate financials in the audit. Yes basketball makes more, but I would like to see what the NCAA allocation is/is made up of/why.

Without that basketball is barely profitable at lsu. Would also like to see several years trended fwiw

It's not that lsu baseball isn't holding its own with lsu basketball.

It's more like big ten and the northeast carry their weight in basketball, but not in baseball.

Lsu basketball gets an allocation for NCAA revenues based on the success and marketability of northern teams, that are not financially successful not marketable in baseball. Therefore the lack in NCAA allocation for baseball

See: big 10 on cbs on Sunday every Sunday after football
