Based On Media/Committee Logic, LSU Should Be 5 or 6 Tonight, Right?

I am rebooting this thread from Sunday on The Score Board. I want to bring it back up on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning after the playoff rankings are announced.

So, based upon everything I've read from the committee, LSU just lost to one of the best teams in CFB this year, at their house. This is the same team that had 1 loss going into the weekend, but was still ranked ahead of many unbeatens. Reason being was their loss was on the road in a sloppy game.

ND was #5 because they lost to the #1 team on the road (Clemson).

So, Tuesday, I expect the following:

1) Clemson
2) Bama
3) OSU
4) Oklahoma State/Baylor
5) ND
6) LSU

LSU should be right in the thick of things since we lost to the current #2 (some on ESPN will argue Bama is #1 now) on the road, and we currently only have one loss. Our quality wins are the current SEC East champ UF, and MSU (on the road).

We win out and we have a shot at the top 4 with one loss, right?!?

That's how this works, right?

Or does LSU's loss mean more, despite the great opponent we lost to?

I guess we will see what standards LSU is playing by. Hopefully it won't be that much different than Bama's, especially if we go on the road in two weeks and beat the team that beat them in Oxford.

Right?

PS - I am being sarcastic. I know all of our losses count and they hurt. Bad. I just want to see consistency.

PSS - This thread is not for the fans still upset over Saturday and think LSU deserves to be out of the top 10. This thread is about the Committee and the standards they hold for certain teams. I am anxious to see where LSU stands with them, even though I'm sure I already know the answer.

6-8 is fair and reasonable.

Committee will be interested to see how this team bounces back.

The CFP is broken by design. You can't suggest math as a solution to the problem of winning it on the field to then use an "eyeball test" to put the teams in the playoff when it's limited to only 4 teams. That may work when the playoffs are so large as to almost certainly include all possible champions (like college basketball and baseball) but with only 4 teams for football, you're certainly going to leave out a darkhorse that could make a run almost every year. See Giants over an undefeated Pats teams a few years back in the NFL for evidence of this...

The whole thing is ludicrous.

Either A) go back to some system of dispassionate computer algorithms that ranks teams based on wins/losses and use that to place them into this playoff, or B)Finally understand that eyeball tests and winning it on the field are incompatible concepts and institute an NFL style playoff system where the ONLY factor used in determining playoff spots are wins/losses... No more worrying about which is "the best" team...just worrying about winning your conference and earning that playoff spot.

You're right to want consistency, of course...but you know moreso than most here that when it comes to LSU versus the traditionally elite no such thing exists. Unless and until we institute a system that removes the possibility of personal biases, the CFP Champ will not be much better than the BCS Champ or the old AP/UPI for that matter.

I've been saying for a while now that I wish we had the Old BCS formula (before it was changed in 2004 because media darling USC was hurt) COMBINED with the final four teams being mandated to win their conference.

So, take the top 5-7 Conference champs, and determine the top four out of those.

Winning games and your conference should mean something, just like losing games and finishing third in your conference should mean a mid-tier bowl.

No, we will have to be behind ND since they lost to #1.

We have "the best loss" and we have about the third or 4th best win. Plus we have really cool unis. So I'm going with 8.

We won't be but I sure in the hell hope someone speaks up and defends out position. If they going to go on and on last week about Bama then the same should be done for us. But it won't, because they are Alabama!

That would certainly be better than the current model.

Sorry...didn't mean to hijack your thread, but this just seems like a solid time to point all this out.

We all need to come to grips with the fact that the CFP has literally nothing to do with anyone's actual desire to see teams "win it on the field." It's sole purpose for existing is to enable ESPN and all other news agencies that report on it to benefit from advertising rates they can charge based on the crowd they'll delivering covering it.

It's a TV show...that's all it is.

I've yet to really take the time to sit down and flesh out what I'd like to see, but it would either be going backwards kind of like what you suggested, or blowing it all up...from traditional conference affiliations to grouping conferences, etc and creating something that REALLY does end up with a true playoff system that removes ENTIRELY the media from eye ball testing what ought not be.

I'd say 8 or 9. If we win out, we'll be 4 5 or 6 depending on other team's losses. We should be tied with the winner of ND/Stanford game and Iowa which will be undefeated but with a very soft schedule. Iowa: 1 ranked opponent LSU: 6 ranked opponents.

Nah. No problem. This will be more fun than my "ref" threads. LOL

Bless you, sir. I've been saying for years here: ENTERTAINMENT. Especially now that an ENTERTAINMENT company owns the sport. All they care about is ratings.

TY. That was actually one of my sincere/serious posts. I love my school, but when it comes to CFB, that is reality. I wish thousands of others could come to grips with that.

Well, folks. The first sign of "things to come" has been laid out for us by Bama alum, Mr. Reese Davis.

He has us at 11, behind....drum roll....FLORIDA! That's right, we are now ranked behind a team we beat, simply because we lost to the "best team in CFB".

Oh how I love media bias and double standards.

If you don't think Reese and his crew don't play a role in how the committee ranks teams, you are kidding yourself.

On ESPN's Championship Drive show they must have said "pass the eye test" a bagillion times. That's what putting this shite in the hands of a committee will do. People hated the BCS but at least, for the most part, it got it right.

That's why I refuse to watch this crap.

"Eye ball test" = Different standards for our media darlings.

The road to the playoffs will be very difficult for teams outside of this select group.
