Boyd's World has at 44. UNO is at 39. Three SEC teams in Top 5.

How does baseball pre-conference scheduling work? Are we really having trouble finding quality teams to play? I am sure our RPI will go up nicely once we face better SEC competition, but it seems like not playing good teams early has them not ready for SEC play.

Even in football, we seem to get at least once decent early season non-conference game.

Am I overthinking this, or is it a problem that can be fixed, or one that can't be?

Some teams are willing to travel early. Last year we went to Houston and that helped some. We will be going back next year. But for the most part, we play crap teams and only crap teams before conference starts. And I say that last part because most if not all major conference programs schedule "down" early. But they usually throw in one or two weekends of decent opponents.

ETA:

Florida "traveled" to Miami
Vandy traveled to Stanford
USCe "traveled" to Clemson
Ole Miss hosted Louisville and played in a tournament where they played Coastal Carolina

Calm down. I'm talking about the schedule. First SEC series with a bunch of new starters, against probably the best staff in the conference.

I"m not at all worried about the team's long-term performance. Was just talking about the schedule.

Hey pot meet dumbass. No he clearly said seems lsu isn't ready for sec play.

Come back in a few weeks and we will see. How would losing a bunch of early games to highly regarded teams help in the hardest conference in possibly all of sports. Super young team. We needed the wins regardless

3 games is a bunch?

Good point. Florida, Vandy, Ole Miss, and USCe obviously have it wrong. They're only a combined 78-8 even though they've played those teams from my first post.

The SEC games in the first weekend count the same as the last weekend. I'd rather take a few extra losses early to get these young players better prepared as well as give the coaches a better idea of what they are capable of prior to SEC starts.

It's funny when you quote something and still sound stupid. How WOULD is what I said. Unbelievable

Also. Those teams you mentioned have way more experience than us. As other poster mentioned we played decent teams last year bc we had a veteran team. I didn't realize the concept was confusing as well as the English language

I was that poster, you moron.

What I quoted was you claiming a single weekend, win or lose, is a "bunch" of games.

ETA: We played 1 decent team last year prior to the SEC. And we only played them once. Our crappy schedule isn't a biproduct of a young team; it's a biproduct of PM who has always scheduled this way.

Petition the AD to play UL a home and home series instead of a mid week game. I'm sure it could happen if PM wanted it to...

FInish with 17+ wins in the SEC and your RPI will be in the national seed conversation, which is why, strictly in terms of SOS, it doesn't matter who the frick we schedule in the OOC.

Now, if you want to make an argument that an overly weak OOC can hurt the development of the team in the long run, then that's a different discussion altogether.

That's where I'm at. I don't want us fumbling through the first 3 or 4 weeks of the SEC still trying to figure things out, although that could still happen. I would like to see a weekend where we face stiff competition to help us get ready for that first week, young team or not. If we have to travel, even better.

I lean that way too, but you could also argue that a young team can build some confidence by beating up on some shite teams as opposed to getting demoralized early on against more mature teams.

Sure. There are arguments both ways. Had the same discussion with rabbit this weekend. But it's not often we are this young. And PM always schedules pre SEC like this. I think it would be beneficial regardless as part of the yearly routine to play someone ranked. Hype it up a little and see how the players react. The more feedback for the coaches, the better.

They're too close and not good enough. We can play them plenty midweek. That's what the close teams are for. It's like saying we should play weekends vs Tulane, SELU or even UNO. And if you don't play them midweek, who do you replace them with? More games vs Southern, Nicholls and Grambling? No thanks.
